“My New Year’s Resolution is…” Isn’t that how most of us begin our New Year’s, with a promise or goal that we plan on keep throughout the year that we just can’t seem to keep. Organization is one of those areas where it’s beneficial however, like the resolution we struggle to maintain or keep up with. This New Year’s kick it off with a home organization resolution. Try tackling one part of the home at a time, for instance the bathroom would be a fantastic start. It’s the place that everyone uses daily and it would be better to tackle one space at a time versus diving into the entire process.
Home Organization: Refreshing the Bathroom this New Year
Survey and Throw away
The bathroom can become the dumping ground for all types of items such as medicines, hair and body care products, kid’s bath toys, etc. Even though at one point all of these items seemed like an necessity however, if you truly thought about it how necessary are they now? To begin your bathroom organization, look around and see what you can throw away. Out of date medicines, or make-up items, broken bath toys, bath products that you’ve never used, ratty towels; all fall into that category.
Give Things a Place
Once the unused clutter is gone then you can start arranging the items that are let in a more appropriate manner. This is where caddies, mesh bags and mini-storage bins can become your best friends. You can use the mesh bags for your kid’s bath time toys, place your bath products and hair products in the shower caddy (preferably one that will stick to the shower wall), and for the cleaning supplies, you can store them in mini-storage underneath the sink. Also, make a routine for your kids to clean up the bathroom after they are finished and placing disinfectant wipes under the sink.
The More Storage the Better
Use the space above the toilet or build some extra shelving or even if you have the room to squeeze in a storage cabinet for your home organizing. Whichever you prefer these storage units will help when you may need to store extra towels, washcloths, extra toilet paper, perhaps you may want to store the extra toothbrushes and paste, deodorant, body washes in case company comes to stay. Think about getting some apothecary jars to hold cotton swabs, bath salts, even potpourri etc. Plus, they’re clear so you won’t have to worry about guests look through them.
Start off your New Year with some good old home organization tips on how to get your bathroom in order. You don’t have to tackle the entire house at one time rather pick one room and follow through.
