How to Create a Relaxing Garden Spot in your Backyard

Entry #1012, March 12, 2012

Whether you have a large sprawling lawn with a garden attached or you have a small piece of patio space, creating a relaxing garden spot in your backyard can be easier than you think. Gathering the essentials, such as comfortable seating or lounge furniture, greenery in your favorite colors and aromas, and decorating with familiar garden accessories will make your garden spot personable and relaxing. Here’s how to create your relaxing garden area.

  • Choose a variety of seating options:

Remember when garden furniture was all metal and not very diverse? Today the sky is the limit and creating a relaxing garden spot should include your favorite garden furniture, and leisure items. A hammock strung between two trees, floor pillows, cushioned wrought iron garden furniture, and a beautiful umbrella to keep the sun at bay from your relaxing spot.  Similarly to your interiors of your home, look for outdoor fabrics and furniture options to bring the indoors out.

  • Bring the garden to your patio:

If your patio or deck area is your backyard, you can still bring the same ambiance of relaxation and serenity to your small space. Choose potted plants that add texture, varying heights, and foliage that is full of color and aroma to surround the patio. Choose garden furniture that has vibrant colors and decorate with lanterns, garden wall accents on the exterior of the house, and bring out all-weather carpeting to soften up concrete and hard surfaces underfoot.

  • Personalize with pieces of you:

Often times we try and make our outdoor home reflect what we see in magazines and home and garden blogs but we leave a piece of ourselves out of the scenario. Creating a relaxing garden spot is also about bringing pieces of you and your family into the garden. If you have artisan wares from your last family vacation that will do well outside, use them as planters. Try softening hard surfaces outside with all-weather curtains and personal touches like throw pillows, eclectic furniture found at your favorite yard sale and more. You will be surprised how relaxing your garden area is when you bring yourself outside.

Your relaxing garden spot is easier to achieve than you once thought! Use these helpful tips to personalize and make more comfortable your outdoor home. Start with gorgeous foliage and plants, and then bring in furniture and seating that you could spend all day reading a book in. You will love how your garden space may become the favorite space of your entire home!
