How to Create the Illusion of Space in Your Hallways

 Entry #1553, September 3, 2012

In discussing how to create the illusion of space in your hallways, there is a mistake that most homeowners make concerning the hallways. How many of you have really taken the time to, while you are cleaning the entire house, also clean the storage in your hallways? Very few I believe and this stems from the fact that a lot of us don’t see the hallways as part of the house. We only tend to view them in the light of passageways which take us from one end of the house to another end. This is all wrong. The earlier you transform your hallway from that dingy part of your house to a welcoming and warm part of the house, the better for your entire house.

Now you may be wondering how to transform your hallways. The most effective way is learning a few helpful tips on how to create the illusion of space in your hallways since it will go a long way in making a hallway as gorgeous as the main house itself. Listed below are some of the ways to create that illusion of space in the hallway. They are:

Tidy:

Yes, you can actually create that illusion of space within your hallways when you make sure it is always tidy. Avoid using the hallway as a dumping ground and even when you need to keep certain things there out of necessity, arrange them properly instead of piling things on top the other. Even at that, a cupboard or shelve can be created for those items that can only find space in your hallways. This way, you make the place look and feel spacious.

Bright Lighting:

You might be surprised to read that in some homes, there is no proper lighting within the hallways and the family members just have to grope their ways through this part of the house. It is really awful. Installing bright lighting in the hallways not only brightens this space but also makes it beautiful and at the same time, feels spacious. You can install a chandelier in the middle of the ceiling which can even turn out to be the main focal point of the hallway. You can also hang several colored lights from the ceiling for that magical effect in your hallway.

You can do this by hanging large ornamental mirrors on both sides of the hallway or you can settle for smaller but varied designs of mirrors.

It is time to transform those hallways in your house and sticking to these above mentioned tips for creating more space visually in your hallways. Try these ideas and you are surely going to come up with an interesting and beautiful hallway.
