In the past few months I’ve dedicated posts to laundry rooms and their organization, function and of course beauty! I’ve even explored space saving tips for those who don’t have a dedicated laundry room in their home. Whether it’s a
shared space in the garage, or even in the kitchen. The reality is that everyone doesn’t have large areas to have laundry rooms, and many live in urban environments where space is limited.
Electrolux has unveiled a washer machine that is compact, functional and very stylish! Electrolux’s Design Lab features a competition open to design students to create innovative
home appliances that are modern and cutting edge. This year in Milan, the SHINE Laundry concept was introduced from the Design Lab. Although, not yet an Electrolux product, the competition showed us what is possible in the future for small laundry areas.
The washer machine has two model ideas. The first, is a wall mounted model, shown to the right. The other is a floor mounted design.
The lighted door corresponds with the washing cycle, as well as provides ambient light. The concept of the lighting is described below.
The importance of light: When developing the concepts, the Electrolux Design team thoroughly studied the bathroom environment and developed new design trends linked to materials, colors, lighting and ambiance.
“The bathroom is more of a relaxation room than a cleansing room,” explains Calum Armstrong, Electrolux Industrial Design Manager, Fabric Care. “The SHINE concepts are thoroughly connected to this with our intention to contribute to a therapeutic atmosphere, akin to Japanese culture.”
I think it’s interesting that the Design manager compared it to a bathroom, relaxation environment. Who would of thought of this in the Laundry room? Most of us are trying to get in, and get out, without losing a sock!
