Supplies

  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • Flat decorative marbles
  • 4-inch-diameter foam ball
  • A medium-width dowel, 16 inches long
  • Christmas ornaments (in different colors and sizes)
  • A glue gun
  • Double-faced satin ribbon
  • Prewired filler or rhinestone florist’s picks
  • Vase or container
  • Modelling clay
  • Plastic wrap (optional)

Process

  1. Spray-paint the foam ball and leave it to dry. Affix the dowel to the foam ball. (You can sharpen one end of the dowel to make it easier to insert.
  2. Remove the caps from your Christmas ornaments.
  3. Apply hot glue to the top part of each ornament then press it into the foam ball. Mix different colors and sizes for a unique look.
  4. Fill the tiny gaps between the ornaments with the rhinestone picks or prewired filler.
  5. Tie the ribbon around the dowel starting from the bottom and ending just beneath the decorated foam ball. Make a knot and leave two tails.
  6. Fill your vase with modelling clay. If you intend to reuse the clay, cover the top part with the plastic wrap to ensure it doesn’t dry out.
  7. Put the other end of the dowel inside the clay and place the marbles on top of the clay.

The Christmas ornaments add sparkle

This sparkly New Year’s craft is so gorgeous you’ll want to show it off all year. The best thing about it is that you can make it using your Christmas ornaments. If you have kids, you can make it together as you wait for the midnight hour. Kids love to usher in the New Year but most of them don’t have the energy to stay up late so this will keep them busy. You can make several topiaries and place them around the house to create a celebratory mood.

Wouldn’t you love this DIY craft for your home.
