Now that the kids are back to school, I’m sure the mum’s are in need of some serious pampering. As much as you would love a visit to the spa, here are a few homemade sugar scrub beauty recipes that can be whipped up in no time for a spa like feel. These scrubs can be used every day to help relieve the stress right in the privacy of your home. The ingredients are easily available at your local grocer.

 Vanilla-Brown Sugar Scrub

Ingredients

1 cup of brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup sweet almond oil
2 vitamin E capsules
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 tsp honey

Method

Combine brown sugar and almond oil in a mixing bowl. Pierce capsules with a knife or cut in half with kitchen scissors. Empty oil into sugar mixture and discard capsules. Add vanilla and honey, stir well to combine. Makes about one cup. You could add more oil to make the scrub softer or lesser oil if you prefer a granular scrub.

The aroma of vanilla and the moisturizing effect of honey will leave your skin feeling soft supple and glowing. The scrub can be stored in an air tight glass bottle and will last for approximately 3 months on your shelf.

Peppermint sugar foot scrub:

Ingredients:

1cup of sugar
1/3 cup of olive oil
2 T of corn syrup
1/2 tsp of peppermint extract
1 drop of green food coloring

Method:

Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl except the green food color. Further divide your scrub equally into two bowls. Add one drop of green food coloring to one of the bowls and leave the other as is. You will now have one white portion and one green portion. In a glass jar layer the scrub starting with the green portion and alternating as you go up to create stripes of white and green. Use whenever your feet need a bit of pampering.

Sugar scrubs are a great way to treat the skin to some moisture during the winters. You can make a few extra jars and gift them to other mums around you. Add a personal touch by creating labels for the bottle and decorating with ribbons or jute twine.
