Playful Kids Art: Fun and Easy Winter Paper Craft Ideas

Winter is a wonderful season for crafting and even more for making some fun and easy kids art projects. This season is full of inspiration and since we often can’t get outside due to the cold weather, crafts are perfect for keeping little ones occupied while spending time creatively. Kid friendly crafts have to be easy and fun to make so the kids don’t get tired too soon or lose their interest. Here are a few ideas for some playful kids art projects to make this winter.

Fun crafts to make with the kids:

Paper is a wonderful material for kids to use in making fun crafts, like the all-time classic: making paper snowflakes. All you need is a square piece of paper and a pair of scissors. Start by folding the paper in half diagonally so will end up with a triangle. Next, fold your triangle in half in order to make the pointy corners meet. Divide this triangle into three even sized sections (you can use a pencil to trace them). Gently fold the left section over to the front, without creasing the paper too much. Fold the right section in the same way towards the front. Adjust the folds if necessary and crease the paper when the sides match up. The next step is to flip your paper over and to cut across the bottom of it so you end up having a wedge. It’s time to cut the paper now as it is folded with straight and curvy lines. Unfold the paper when you are satisfied and make as many as you want. You can now use them to decorate walls or windows.

Easy paper crafts for the cold season

Toddles are always ready for making some easier paper crafts, like these paper mittens. All you need is some colored paper, pieces of colorful tissue paper and kid friendly glue. Use the colored paper to cut out some mitten shapes and give the tissue paper pieces and glue to the toddlers to decorate them. You can even use some water colors or other paint to color them if you like.

Try your hand at creative snowman crafts:

Making crafts having a snowman as a theme is always popular with the kids. For bigger kids, let them cut out three different sized circles from plain white paper and glue them on a larger piece of blue paper. Let them cut out other necessary details from black, orange and other colored paper and glue everything into place. For smaller kids, you can pre-cut all the pieces and give them to the children to glue into place. Also, consider using bigger and smaller paper plates instead of cutting out paper circles for the snowman’s body.

A few more kids art ideas to try:

Making some fun penguins, owls or polar bears out of paper are also great art ideas for kids to make in winter time. Just keep the shapes simple and use the right colors to assemble penguins or polar bears and proceed similar to the snowman craft described above. Other than tissue paper or colored pieces of paper, you can use materials such as scrapbook paper, googly eyes, buttons, stickers or cotton balls for adding the details to your craft.

These are just a few kids art projects that you can make in the colder season of the year that are going to be a hit for you children and keep them creatively active when they can’t get out to play. Make sure to display their finished work as they deserve and your kids’ self-esteem will get a wonderful boost!
