Preparing your Holiday Home for Houseguests

The holiday season is coming and many of us are going to have houseguests or relatives. So, it is needless to say that you have to prepare your home before the guests arrive. During November and December, the calendar gets crazy busy. So, if you do not start now, it will be late to fortify your house.

Keep the Outside Clean

The first impression of the guests about your home should be positive. So, to create a positive impression, your home should look good from the outside too. Keep all the odd things away from your driveway, front porch, and patio and keep them clean. Give these places a good sweeping. Check your front door too. A dirty door is not the right thing to welcome your guests with.

Does Your House Smell Good?

Most of the homeowners cannot tell if their house smells good or bad because they get used to it. However, you have to make your home pass the sniff test if you are going to host guests. At first, clean your bathrooms and kitchen with sweet-smelling cleaning supplies because these places get smelly too fast and too easy. Other things that you can do are cleaning the litter boxes, bathing the pet animals, washing animal cages, vacuum carpet, and brush the furniture. Plus, burn some scented candles once in a while.

Update the Guest Bathroom

You have to prepare the guest bathroom or whatever bathroom your guests will use. Wipe all the traces of your personal belongings from the bathroom. It will not be pleasing for your guests to see your used towels or a big glob or toothpaste in the sink.

Clean every inch of the bathroom and use some scented things so that it smells wonderful. Disinfectants used for cleaning germs make the place smell like a hospital. So, it will help if you bring some amazing smelling candles and soaps.

Keep some brand new fluffy towels and a small pack of extra toiletries including soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and new toothbrushes. It will save their trouble if they forget these things to bring.

Make Your Guests Comfortable

If your guests are spending more than one day or spending the night at your home, ensure that they get a B&B (Bed & Breakfast) comfort. To ensure that level of coziness, you have to take care of some small things like replacing the guest’s bed sheet with a clean one, adding some extra pillows and blankets to the bed, fixing the windows if needed, and placing some current magazines and books on the bedside table.

You should create an environment that makes guests feel welcome and relaxed. They should enjoy the experience of living in your house. So, make your plans of updates and decorations accordingly.
