Guest Blog Entry #42, Entry #386, January 14, 2011
Have you ever been running errands and gotten side tracked by life, and next thing you know you forgot to pick up your important dry cleaning for tomorrow’s power lunch with your boss?
Whether this scenario sounds like you or not, the premise is, organization is key! As we continue through organization month of January, I thought I’d bring you a resource that well help you organize your life.
Today, my Guest Blogger is Ulrich Riedel, founder of Organisemee, an web based task management system that allows you to stay connected while you’re at home, or on the go with your mobile phone. You won’t believe the great features, I’ll let Ulrich explain this great organizational tool.
How to get your tasks done more efficiently
You all know this – there are so many things to do, and the days don’t seem to have enough time to accomplish them all: Keeping you nicely arranged house in order, do the groceries and the shopping, manage your family as well as your professional life.
There have been lots of books written of techniques for self, time and task management. Whereas they offer different approaches, some basic methods seem to stick: You need to write your tasks down. And you need to write them down in a system that brings them up in time before the due date arrives – ideally automatically, so you don’t need to keep the overview yourself.
Now it’s easier than ever to get supported by such a task management system – thanks to the ubiquitous Internet, accessible even on the go from your mobile phone.
Organisemee is such a web based task management application. In Organisemee you can easily enter your tasks and structure them by task lists which you also define on your own. Task lists can be shopping, private, decorate, business or gift lists – or whatever you are working on. This list structure will help you thinking about all the relevant tasks you need to do to accomplish a certain project or goal. It supports you in your planning and forward thinking.
By assigning due dates and priorities you can view your tasks sorted by a certain priority (e.g. high) or by a certain date (e.g. today). This ensures you are focusing on the right task. And together with a strong reminder function, which sends you emails, SMS or IM messages to remind you on the execution of a task, you will never forget a task again.
But you are not executing your entire tasks on your own. Instead, your spouse, family members, friends and colleagues accomplishes some of them, right? Therefore you can also assign tasks to other Organisemee users once you have become contacts (like friends in Facebook) with them. Then these tasks created by you are part of their to-do lists, and need to be executed by them. So you spouse can never say you did not tell him to bring the milk or change the bulb…
For a look up of your shopping list in the supermarket or in the mall, Organisemee is accessible from almost all mobile phones – and soon from various smartphone apps as well.
But even the best tool can only support you so much – you still need to build up procedures to use the tool and the approach to become more efficient. Here, Organisemee offers descriptions how to organize yourself better – and provides daily tips on twitter. Try it – and set yourself a resolution for the still new year.
Ulrich Riedel, MBA of Industrial Engineering and Management, is the founder of Organisemee. He has designed and build this task management application and the related services based on his 16 years of experience as a project manager as well as a family man. By managing medium and large scale business improvement and IT projects, he has learned how to set goals/milestones, deduct the relevant tasks and assign them to the right people. And he knows how to keep the overview of the current status of a project and deliver it in time. And the same approaches are relevant to achieve your personal tasks and goals. Therefore the motto of Organisemee is: We hope to support you in getting your tasks done efficiently and in time.
