Directions
- To start, cut 8 pieces of string that are about 50 inches long each. You can adjust the length to fit your purposes and needs. Bundle the ends and make them even. At this point you can thread the ends through the ring and tie a big and strong knot with them.
- Lay out the strings and pair them into groups of two using strings that are next to each other.
- Tie each pair into a knot, making sure that you keep even distances to the original big knot. You can make a simple knot or a double knot. Continue making knots into each pair of strands, taking always care to make each knot of each pair at the same height. Don’t make knots all the way down the strands but leave a good length (a little less than half of the original) of strand without knots.
- Lay out the strands and tie each strand to the next strand that’s beside it making a knot, again keeping even distances, but let the first and the last string unpaired; those two you will pair up at the end with a knot. But also keep in mind the size of your pot. If it is a small one, you should make the knots closer together than if it was a bigger one. At this point, you can use beads to pair the two strands together and make knots. That will add character to your plant hanger. Now you have a different set of four pairs of strands.
- Continue making knots into two strands of different pairs in the same manner to complete the pattern.
- When you are satisfied with the plant hanger’s size, make a big knot at the bottom of your hanger. You can use another bead to finish up the look.
- Place your plant pot inside the hanger, secure the key ring and you are ready to hang it up!
This easy Summer Project to make your own Macramé hanging flower pots is a wonderful way to give your home a touch of DIY character. And it’s a great way to add a little personal touch to a plant you might want to give as a gift.
