Those cute turkeys are quite simple to make, but patience is needed for them to dry. You will need chocolate vanilla crème cookies, candy corn, peanut butter cups – which must be cut on the one end so they are leveled – chocolate frosting, yellow and red frosting, whoppers  and some sprinkles for the eyes. To stick the candy corn, the peanut butter cups, the whoopers and the cookies to each other, you will need to use the chocolate frosting as glue. The turkey’s nose is made of the cut tip of a candy corn.

Fall Mason Jar Candle Holders

All you need to make some wonderful autumn candle holders are mason jars, mod podge and sponge brush, fake or real autumn leaves, twine or ribbon for the final touch and battery tea lights.

To make them, clean the jars thoroughly and prepare the leaves. Try to use bendable leaves, since they will be easier to attach to the jar. Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge and stick one leaf on the jar. Then apply as many layers of Mod Podge are necessary. Continue by covering the jar with more leaves, one at a time. When finished, you can use some clear varnish for sealing. Next, decorate the candle holder with the ribbon and you are ready to place the candle inside.

For an even easier craft, add to mason jars seasonal items and small glass candle holders to instantly have some wonderful candle holders.

Painted Fall Mason Jar Vases

All you need to make beautiful vases out of mason jars is some paint and a brush. You can use any paint or chalk paint, just choose some nice fall colors, like orange, yellow and brown. To give them a rustic look, use some sandpaper after the paint has dried. You can now use stencils and acrylic paint to spell a meaningful message on the vases. Another option for decorating the vases is to wrap burlap and twine around them. All you need now are some fresh or fake fall flowers and a nice spot to place your vases.

Hanging Leaf Chandelier

To make this easy but beautiful chandelier, just drill a ¼ inch hole in the jar’s lid. Take a piece of rope and pull it through the hole. Tie a knot under the lid. Now place some leaves into the jars and secure the lids. Alternatively use other fall items, like acorns, tiny pumpkins or even candy corn. Repeat this with a few more mason jars and then tie the rope pieces together. Now you can hang them using a heavy-duty ceiling hook.

Mason jars are so easy to decorate and so versatile in their use. They can be used purely for decoration, but they can be also put to practical use, for storing food or small utensils. Use seasonal items to give them a warm fall touch.

DIY Craft: How to Make Button Bookmarks

Materials

Directions

If you have colorful paperclips, assign each button to a paperclip so you’ll have a combination that suits your taste. Check each button’s back. If there are hooks or shanks, remove them with the wire cutter or plier. Apply a drop of glue to the back of the button and attach the paperclip. Let the glue dry completely. Take a small scrap of felt with the size and shape of the button and glue it on the back of the button where the paperclip is attached, so you’ll have a smooth finish. Let it dry. That’s it; they are ready to be used.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching and nothing welcomes your family and friends more than a beautifully decorated yard and entry. Your neighbors and passers-by will also benefit from the visual delight you present them with. Make your yard and entry way a welcoming place that kicks off the holiday season and honors the time you will be spending with family and friends. This is a time of festivity, coming together and expressing gratitude for the blessings we have received.

Think ahead to the holiday season

Thinking ahead for the whole of the holiday season can also save you some valuable time and money. If you plan in advance you can go ahead and put out some decorations that with a few modifications can be used for the Christmas holiday too.

Go ahead and hang up some garlands with lighting or rope lighting which you can then spruce up when you are ready to decorate for Christmas. When hanging your lights make sure they are safe and working before putting into position, also purchase some spare bulbs just in case.

Autumn colors to your Thanksgiving outdoor home

Think of the colors of autumn when putting outdoor Thanksgiving decorations out and the time of year and place wreaths or swags on your doors and windows. Create little vignettes in your yard and on your porch that express your personality. Highlighting these with a spotlight can create a dramatic effect at night. Hay stacks, pumpkins, turkeys,cornucopias  and gourds are very popular decorative items. Hang a decorative flag from your front porch or put one in a planter in your yard. There is an abundance of decorative wooden signs too that you can add in to your décor and don’t forget to  place  a new seasonal door mat in front of your door.

For apartment and condo dwellers, just because you don’t have a yard doesn’t mean you to have miss out on getting into the holiday spirit. If you can’t paint your door, hang  pretty paper on it and place a sign, wreath or swag on it framed with led lighting or a garland. Place a door mat outside and create a little vignette with pumpkins, gourds, hay bales or cornstalks, be sure to include some of the beautifully colored mums that are available this time of year. Your only limitation is the extent of your imagination and maybe your pocket. There are many budget friendly decorations on the market today thus making a little bit of money go a long way in creating a festive atmosphere.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year. It is a time to create new memories and to cherish old ones. What can be better than sitting around with family and friends and eating a fabulous meal. Enjoy the day and the kick off to the rest of the season. In the words of John F. Kennedy, “ As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

3 Creative DIY Thanksgiving Table Runner Ideas

Here are three easy ideas to create your own table runner this thanksgiving:

1. Book page runner

Old book pages that have yellowed over the years can add a rustic touch to your table décor. Look for an old book in your bookshelf that you no longer refer to or get in touch with your local library for old books that they might be giving away.

Measure your table for size and calculate the number of pages required. Carefully cut out the pages. Preferably use the pages from the middle of a chapter so that the pages are full and do not have blank spaces. Arrange the pages on a table so that the edges are barely touching. Use packing tape to attach the pages together. Finally, use decorative punch hole to create a design all around.

2. Burlap runner

Burlap is a beautiful, versatile fabric that can be used in both a casual and a formal setting. Simple burlap fabric can be used creatively as a table runner in a matter of minutes. The warm color of the burlap fabric works well with both traditional and contemporary thanksgiving décor.

Cut the fabric into desired length according to the size of your table. Gather the fabric together a few inches above the end and simply tie a twine of jute or ribbon and the runner is ready for use. You can also tie burlap sashes to the dining chairs for an extra decorative punch.

 3. Pinwheel runner 

Add color to your table setting by crafting a runner out of scrapbook or craft paper.

Start by selecting 3 to 4 colored paper sheets and cut these into different sized rectangles with varying widths. Fold these evenly in a fan fold like an accordion. Snip the edges with a scissor to make a pattern.

Open the fan and stick the two ends together such that it looks like a circular disc. Use decorative punch hole to create a design along the edge. Stick different sized discs together to form a table runner.
