Modern Decor – HBF Studios Debuts Todd Bracher Chairs

These days, offices are no longer what they used to be. People eat at their workplaces and also entertain visitors there. Some don’t work in traditional offices. The Todd Bracher chairs and tables have inventive designs that fit into any environment. They can be used in modern offices as well as cafes and restaurants.

Todd Bracher and HBF: Perfect Collaboration

Todd Bracher is one of the most renowned figures in design. The designer has collaborated with some of the most esteemed brands ranging from Georg Jensen to Zanotta. He is touted as the new great designer in America and received several nominations for International Designer of the Year. His designs for HBF are nothing short of amazing. HBF has been in the furniture business for a long time and understands how furnishings create connections between people, objects, and environments resulting in holistic spaces for living and working. The company stands out for its innovativeness and craftsmanship.

What do you think of these modern décor pieces?

I love wood! Sounds odd but being someone interested in the outdoors I have always been fascinated by the components of nature and wood in particular is an amazing material; the huge variety of colours, textures and the fact it comes from trees that have often lived for hundreds of years adds to the wonder of this incredibly durable, flexible material. In recent years we have had to become more conscious of our use of this wonderful substrate as we battle to ensure sustainability of our forests and green spaces. This has led to the increased use of alternative materials for the creation of furniture and interiors. I am passionate about creating art with function through my furniture and interior designs and although I have used metal, glass, granite and other materials that I will always return to the wonderfully versatile wood I first started working with.

I am a self-taught designer and initially I was inspired by picking up pieces of driftwood and figuring out how I could transform them into unique items for my home that I would love and that would represent my passions and interests. As my creative ideas grew influenced by an eclectic love of horror, nature and science fiction I started exploring the use of hardwoods, some of my favourites of which include Oak, Elm, Zebrano and Walnut.

The Arachnitab:

Its not difficult to guess where my inspiration came from when I created this table. I find spiders and insects so interesting and will outlive us all through their ability to adapt and survive. I love to make pieces which have a character of their own and this piece is made from English brown oak burr and with a zebrano wood centre for the table top, it’s got the natural edges left which have been sand blasted. The legs are lazer cut from mild steel then powder coated in textured matt black, I’ve had enquiries for titanium legs and also Gold plated which are all possible – the variations on this design are endless.

The Zebra Swiss jigsaw mirror:

Made from black walnut and American white oak developed from several eclectic sources of inspiration; the components fit together like a jigsaw the holes are reminiscent of Swiss cheese and the copper wire stitching is taken from one of the scariest horror characters of all time – Leather Face from the Texan Chainsaw Massacre! A mirror should provide the focal point of a room and should be as good to look at as well as to look into!

I created the Oak Swiss Jigsaw Ceiling Rose to match some wooden coving. Although it is made from a traditional wood it is contemporary in its look and design and I love the shadow created between the rose and the ceiling.

One of my favourite creations is the Arachnicab:

A cabinet standing on two legs, my idea of a cross between a spider and an Alien that is also very handy to store my jeans in! It’s made from European Oak that has been lightly scorched with a blow torch and the door has been double stitched down the centre with metal wire.

I have taken a traditional material and used it to create unique, modern designs which hopefully demonstrate to all the enduring beauty and versatility of wood.

Hi, I’m Malcolm Lewis a UK based self-taught designer of furniture and interior features from Lewis Designs.  I showed a flair for creative drawing from a young age, and my passion for art and design developed into a love for crafting from wood which inspired me to hone my skills to enable the conversion of my design creations into beautiful interior pieces combining art with function.

The Start-Up

Steven Gambrel is one of the most gifted interior designer/ architects known to this day. His work ethic and approach to design is so unique and original that is well respected amongst his peers and nationwide.  Gambrel attended the University of Virginia where he obtained a degree in architecture.  Just three years after he then founded his design company in 1996, Timeless Interior Design.  During the years Gambrel’s work has been just as the title of his business, “Timeless.”

How He Creates

In his book he states, “It is important to me to not only design rooms and house that fit our chosen lifestyles of today, but to also respect and embrace those qualities that exist and speak of the history of the time in which it was built.”  This enables the accomplished results he creates after every finished project, within every project there is history (a story).  He also goes on to say that he enjoys reading his clients, getting to know them, helping them to live their lives to the fullest contentment by giving them the appropriate tools in order to design their dream environment.

Depending on the client, the space can look bold and striking or subtle yet with exciting detail.  Steven Gambrel achieves with his clients what every artist wishes to create for themselves, which is the ability to fully express themselves in what they create and enjoy the end result!  He seems to take the essence of a person’s character and have it designed in an entire area.

Branching Out

Steve Gambrel is much like a renaissance man nowadays.  While continuing to work on architectural and interior design projects, he has also had a book published called “Steven Gambrel: Time and Place.”  He created a lighting collection for the Urban Electric lighting company and a furniture piece collection partnered with James Lowther.  Steven Gambrel’s journey is limitless.

Gambrel credits his parent s for supporting him in his endeavors and encouraging him to pursue what he loved.  Art lessons, tours of historic villages and abandoned houses, flea markets, and the non-stop construction projects that he work on while living with them all were to his benefit.

Lighting is one of the most important features in a home, and it also has a huge impact on the mood of your living space. Many people spend thousands of pounds redesigning the interior of their house, but forget to apply their stylish techniques to their lighting, from fittings and light shades to switches. If you want to get the best out of the individual rooms in your house, you’re going to have to integrate your furniture design around your lighting – there’s no point in buying expensive sofas or ornaments if their features can’t be properly seen.

Ceiling Mount Fixtures

These types of fixtures are best used in places of work, like bedrooms, dining rooms and studies. They can also be used in hallways and staircases, as they illuminate the surround area well.
