Trust me; it took me a bit of doing to try this as I have a real aversion to canned creamed corn. But this recipe is as far removed from the canned variation as “yes” is from “no”. Not only will you change your mind about this fantastic dish, you’ll wonder why you ever considered eating corn any other way!

[ad#co-1]

Ingredients:

2 lbs of frozen corn kernels*
1 – 8oz. package of cream cheese (cubed)
½ cup heavy cream
1 stick of butter (sliced into 10 – 12 sections)
1 to 3 tbls. Sugar (depending upon desired sweetness)**
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Place all the ingredients in a large pot.

2. Place the pot on the stove top and set to low.

3. Cover the pot and allow the ingredients to meld together.

4. Stir every 15 minutes or so.

5. Allow the mixture to slow cook for at least 3 hours or more***.

*Use corn on the cob instead as a special twist – follow the directions exactly the same but replace frozen corn kernels with frozen corn on the cob.

**1 tablespoon of sugar makes the dish barely sweet; 2 tablespoons make it mildly sweet; and 3 tablespoons make it candyish.

***The longer the dish cooks, the thicker it becomes. Do Not Add any additional liquids to make it soupy as this is not creamed corn.

And there you have it – easy to make, mouthwatering to eat! Enjoy!

Image via: Delish

Procedure

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Generously butter six mini Bundt pans; set aside. Spread sliced almonds out on a baking pan, and toast until golden brown. Transfer nuts to a bowl to cool.

In a medium bowl, combine chopped almonds, light-brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg; set aside. In another medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine 6 tablespoons butter and granulated sugar. Beat on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add egg; beat until combined. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla, and beat until smooth. Add 1/3 of reserved flour mixture and half of sour cream; beat to combine. Repeat. Add final third of flour mixture, and beat to combine.

Fill each Bundt pan with 3 tablespoons batter, and spread evenly with a small offset spatula or spoon. Sprinkle each with 2 tablespoons of reserved almond-spice mixture. Top with additional 3 tablespoons batter; the batter should come to within 1/2 inch of the rims of the pans.

Bake until cakes are golden brown and a cake tester inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20 minutes. Transfer cakes to a wire rack to cool completely. Unmold cakes. Place cakes, flat sides down, on a wire rack placed over a baking pan.

Melt remaining 4 tablespoons butter over medium-high heat until color turns nut brown, about 5 minutes. Pour butter into a medium bowl, leaving behind any dark sediment. Stir in confectioners’ sugar, remaining 2 teaspoons vanilla, and 3 tablespoons milk until smooth; add additional tablespoon milk, if necessary, so glaze is pourable. Drizzle glaze over cakes, and sprinkle with toasted almonds. Serve.

You should be able to serve at least 6 delicious Mini Almond Bundt Cakes for breakfast. If you want more, simply double the ingredients and you can have some more for snacks. This is an easy recipe that you can do anytime you want to serve a sweet and tasty cake for the whole family.

[ad#co-1]

Ingredients

2 1/4 pounds Granny Smith apples

2 1/4 pounds Braeburn apples

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons apple jelly

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/3 cup sugar

Cornmeal Crust Dough

Wax paper

3 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces

1 teaspoon sugar

Brandy-Caramel Sauce

Apple pie ala mode

Image via: The Daily Meal

Procedure

Preheat oven to 425°. Peel and core apples; cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges. Place apples in a large bowl. Stir in next 7 ingredients. Let stand 30 minutes, gently stirring occasionally.

Place 1 Cornmeal Crust Dough disk on a lightly floured piece of wax paper; sprinkle dough lightly with flour. Top with another sheet of wax paper. Roll dough to about 1/8-inch thickness (about 11 inches wide).

Remove and discard the top sheet of wax paper. Starting at 1 edge of dough, wrap dough around rolling pin, separating the dough from bottom sheet of wax paper as you roll. Discard bottom sheet of wax paper. Place rolling pin over a 9-inch glass pie plate, and unroll dough over pie plate. Gently press dough into pie plate.

Stir apple mixture; reserve 1 Tbsp. juices. Spoon apples into crust, packing tightly and mounding in center. Pour remaining juices in bowl over apples. Sprinkle apples with 3 Tbsp. sugar; dot with butter.

Roll remaining Cornmeal Crust Dough disk as directed in Step 2, rolling dough to about 1/8-inch thickness (13 inches wide). Remove and discard wax paper, and place dough over filling; fold edges under, sealing to bottom crust, and crimp. Brush top of pie, excluding fluted edges, lightly with reserved 1 Tbsp. juices from apples; sprinkle with 1 tsp. sugar. Place pie on a jelly-roll pan. Cut 4 to 5 slits in top of pie for steam to escape.

Bake at 425° on lower oven rack 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°; transfer pie to middle oven rack, and bake 35 minutes. Cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning, and bake 30 more minutes or until juices are thick and bubbly, crust is golden brown, and apples are tender when pierced with a long wooden pick through slits in crust. Remove to a wire rack. Cool 1 1/2 to 2 hours before serving. Serve with Brandy-Caramel Sauce.

You can make at least 8 servings using the whole ingredients. This apple pie recipe is best served right after cooking.

Image via: Back to Her Roots

Directions

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in the shortening with a fork until it looks like cornmeal. Add the milk, a little at a time, stirring constantly until well mixed.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly two or three times. Roll out the dough with a floured rolling pin to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a 2-inch cutter.

Place the biscuits in a greased iron skillet. Gently press down top of biscuits. Brush the biscuits with half the melted butter. Bake for 14 minutes or until golden brown. Brush the hot biscuits with the remaining butter. Split the biscuits in half and ladle milk gravy over the hot biscuits.

Heat bacon grease in a cast iron skillet. Add the flour and whisk until smooth and bubbly about 1 minute. Add the warm milk slowly and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and stir, until thickened, about 5 minutes, adding milk as necessary to control the thickness. Season the gravy with salt and pepper. Serve hot over biscuits.

Japanese cuisine has historically included rice as a staple with fish and vegetables as side dishes. Historically, the Japanese did not consume meat but the process of modernization has led to many meat-based dishes appearing in Japan. For a visitor to Japan, the sensations of taste, sight, and smell can be overwhelming. Not only is Japanese food quite colorful, the flavor is also brilliant according to the seasons. All this presents a breathtaking sight to the visitor in Japan. As any tourist will agree, no visit is complete without trying the local cuisine; the temptation to try any dish you set your eyes on might be overwhelming. No visit to Japan is complete without trying at least one of the following:

Yakisoba Cuisine

Yakisoba recipe idea

Image via: Cavoletto Di Bruxelles

[ad#co-1]

A clever mixture of fried noodles, stirred together with vegetables and sauce. Cooking Yakisoba is best over a grill and served hot. You will find many outdoor vendors that sell Yakisoba served fresh from the skillet. Noodles have long been a part of Japanese cuisine so this meal is one you should not miss, especially if you seek historic flavor.

Yakiniku Cuisines

Yakiniku Japanese cuisine

Image via: Pinterest

For those who love grilled meat, Yakiniku is the cuisine for you. Before serving, the meat must soak in a Japanese Barbecue sauce that is very appetizing and tempting. Served raw, you cook the meat pieces by yourself over a small grill at your table and enjoy them together with a side dish of your choice.

Takoyaki Cuisine

Takoyaki Japanese Cuisine

Image via: Tumblr

Takoyaki are deep-fried octopus balls served in sauce. This round delicacy tastes remarkable with various fillings such as rice and shrimp pieces. A perfect serve of Takoyaki in Japan is always available during festivals, but you can find plenty of restaurants that will cook and serve this specialty. They are deceptively small and quite filling.

Japanese cuisine has definitely evolved from the days of pickled rice with vegetables to the current sensational cuisine that is becoming more and more popular in various parts of the world as evidenced by the success of Japanese restaurants abroad. The beauty of Japanese cuisine lies in the fact that there is always a dish for everyone to suit personal preferences. Whether you are a vegetarian or like meat, there is a tasty Japanese meal for you. Go out and dare to try.
