3 Excellent Post-Holiday Organizing Tips

Entry #3177, January 7, 2014

When the holiday season ends, it can be very tempting to put your house back together as quickly as possible. However, doing this can leave the place looking worse than it was before. Post-holiday organizing can be a challenge, right? If you are so tired that the thought of throwing the decorations away is more appealing than that of keeping them, it’s time to look for post-holiday organizing tips. Here are some superb ones to help you make your home the most organized in town.

3 Excellent Post-Holiday Organizing Tips

Toss Out Old Items

Make room for new items by getting rid of the old ones. Go through your stuff and donate the things you don’t need or those that your kids have outgrown. Create extra room in your home by tossing out two gifts for each one received. For example, you can get rid of two old Christmas CDs and DVDs for every new one you got. If your children received new pajamas from their Grandma, donate the old ones. Getting rid of old items will help you to reduce clutter and the excitement of new gifts will help you to cut ties with old and outdated items.

Save Decorations

Save scraps of wrapping paper, pieces of ribbon, and decorations in good shape. You can store your cards, tags, ribbons, and gift wraps in one place. When the holiday season rolls around, it will be easy for you to find these items. If you have limited space, buy a zippered storage bin that can fit under your bed. Before you store items, make sure they deserve to be there. Avoid the mistake of keeping things long past their useful life.

Organize Photos and Holiday Memorabilia

During the holiday season, a lot of pictures are taken. However, they are often forgotten inside cameras until springtime or long afterwards. As things slow down in January, take time to download your holiday images. Organize them on your laptop or make them into physical greeting cards you can send out to family and friends.
