Decorative Inspiration: Improving Interior Walls with Texture

“If the walls could talk, the things they would say…” Our interior walls say so much about our homes; like our personal styles and decor. Think about it, perhaps you have a very bold and vibrant personality and therefore use rich reds and whimsical wall art for the décor for your interior walls. If paints and wall accents can do such amazing works with your walls, then take it one step further and add some texture to the mix. The use of texture on walls can take many forms and add an eclectic taste to your home. So take a look below on how to incorporate texture to your interior walls for your DIY Decor.

Adding Texture to your Interiors

Textured walls are great when you just want to add more to the space without having to do much architectural change to the space.  You have a couple of options to either add texture to walls with fabrics or you can do textured wall paneling that can be painted over. The fabric on the walls add the overall dramatic feel to the space and the wall paneling can add a variety of designs to your space  especially once painted, however most like them to be painted in a neutral tone just so it wont  seem like it’s overwhelming within the space.  Be sure to check out some DIY videos and take a visit to your local Home Depot store about how to install or create the fabric or textured wall paneling for your DIY decor on your walls.

Wall Art Murals

Another way to add texture to your DIY decor walls is with wall art however, wall art in a different way.  Instead of purchasing wall accents and art, have it created on the wall as a permanent fix.  Try having a scenic view painted on the wall or some realistic visual that creates depth and diversity to the space.  The technical term is called Trompe l’oeil (Fools the Eye).   This idea will truly be an eye catching touch to your interior walls.

3-D Textures Make your Walls come Alive

Somehow the idea of adding full out texture to the wall might not be your thing, however you can always give off the idea of texture to your walls.  One great way to create this idea is trying out a Faux finish.  You still get the dynamic impact from the wall yet it has more subtly to it.  The Faux method is when you begin to mix a range of paints with glazes and has an outcome of an array of textured hues.  This idea can work well one just one wall or perhaps mixing it on all fours the choice is yours.

Your interior walls can have such an intense impact on your home, it just depends on how you would like for that impact to be displayed.  You can choose an array of options for you walls to go.  Textured walls are a great way for your home to get that energized look that makes your space standout.  So go out and research what materials and ideas you would like to incorporate for your DIY textured wall decor.
