DIY Natural Home Fragrances for the Colder Season

 Entry #2928, October 24, 2013

Last evening when my friend asked what I did to make the house feel warm and fuzzy in the colder seasons. I remembered simmering some natural home fragrances on the stove last year. The sweet aroma made the entire house smell amazing. With the temperatures dropping natural scents are a wonderful way to make your home feel cozy and inviting.

You can make your own range of simmering potpourri with the below recipes.

The basic recipe:

The basic recipe for the simmering potpourri is the same. You can experiment with your favorite aromas by adding ingredients that you like and removing the ones that you don’t. There is no hard and fast rule so have fun with this one.

1. Fill a saucepan with water and boil it.

2. Next, add the ingredients that you wish to concoct together, you can choose from the recipe ideas below

3. Boil for a few minutes and then turn the heat down. Simmer for another 10 minutes until the water in the saucepan reduces to half the initial quantity. The aroma will fill your home with warmth and a cheery spirit

4. You can also fill a kettle with the boiled liquid and let it simmer while entertaining guests. Add some extra water to speed the evaporation process.

Remember to keep an eye on the pan while it boils and never leave the house with the pan still heating on the stove. The vapors will fill the house and smell divine. Natural home fragrances are better than any chemical sprays from the market. These DIY natural home fragrances are easy to make and earth friendly.
