How to Dress Up Your Intimate Spaces in your Home

Entry #3273, February 19, 2014

How many of us are dealing with the struggle of trying to decorate or design our homes with an intimate space?  That’s okay because you are not alone; at least half of the population is dealing with the same problem but not to fear because there are a number of solutions to these minuscule issues.  Not being able to utilize your space the way you would like to can be a draining experience so below are some ways to bring in some great ideas to your intimate space.

How to Dress Up Your Intimate Spaces in your Home

Draw on It

Go back to when you were a child and you thought it was better to draw on the furniture or the wall versus paper.  Well this idea pertains to this past memory.  If your furniture is lightly colored or has a neutral tone to it then take a Sharpie marker and a ruler and sketch bold stripes or geometric patterns on the arms of your chair or sofa, along with the throw pillows.  It will create a very effective dynamic design that will enhance your small home living.

Add in Architectural Features

Sometimes just by adding in a few architectural designs can create a big change in your small home living in a great way.  Try adding in some molding, just take a visit to your local Home Depot or Lowes store and ask for trim board.  Then all you would have to do is glue and nail it in place.  Or if you wanted to add some depth to your walls then put a vibrant geometric pattern on them similar to the way you would draw on your furniture.  Each way is fairly simple and cost effective to do.

Open and Color Storage

Maybe you have a free-standing cabinet that you didn’t know what to do with, instead of it just taking up space open it up and have enhance the space. Take the door off of the cabinet and let it be a display case for your memorabilia, kitchen glasses, crystals etc.  The choice is yours.  After you have taken the door off paint the storage unit a neutral or bold offset color that will can match some of the accents in the space or around the house.  If you would like add in some piece of wall art to enrich the storage unit or keep it as is with the different colors then that is fine as well.

It’s an Illusion

Another great way to improve your small home living is by adding in mirrors or accentuate on the windows that you have to give off the illusion the space is larger than what it seems.  Try putting large mirrors in the hallway, kitchen or dining room.  Or if you already have a large window in a specific room put small accents around it like a table if the window is located in the dining room or the kitchen then set large and exaggerated centerpieces on top of it when company is not around.
