Guest Blogger: Beautifying your Balcony with Artificial Grass

 Guest Blogger #728, Entry #1703, October 8, 2012

Many apartment dwellers utilize their balcony space to entertain guests and simply relax. But if planned well, a balcony can be used to finally fulfill your dream of having a grass yard. How? By using artificial grass!

While there are many floor options for your balcony, such as wood, gravel or wood chips, there isn’t a better option than grass — either fake or real. The color, beauty, and softness of grass will fill the void of not having a back yard and it is also a beautiful backdrop for container gardening.

Alternatives to real grass have improved drastically in the past decade to the point where most people cannot tell the difference between real and artificial. Additionally, there are several advantages of installing artificial grass over real grass.

  • It’s a timesaver: If you’re a busy person, you won’t have to worry about the maintenance that comes with real grass.
  • It’s maintenance free: Don’t worry about mowing or fertilizing. Once your artificial grass is installed, you only have to occasionally clean it by spraying it down with some water.
  • Long-term cost savings: Because you don’t have to mow or fertilize artificial grass, you don’t have to invest in money to do all of that. After the initial cost of installation, artificial grass essentially has no upkeep costs.
  • It’s cleaner: After a heavy rain, real grass becomes muddy and messy, which tracks inside your home. You don’t have to worry about this with artificial grass.
  • More convenience for your pet: If you live in a city, it can be time consuming to take your pet to the park to use the bathroom and clean up after him. By installing artificial grass with a drainage system, your pet can easily use the bathroom and cleanup is a cinch!
  • No Bugs: Insects love real grass, but don’t like artificial grass. You won’t have to worry about fleas or tickets camping out on your artificial grass bed.

As you can see, there are plenty of advantages to artificial grass.

While traditional grass does look good and smells beautiful, it requires a ton of upkeep. You need to focus on bald spots that aren’t getting enough sunlight, water daily and even fertilize. And mowing would be a nightmare on a city balcony.

You’ll have a difficult time telling the difference between real and artificial grass, but you will certainly experience the difference in user-experience between the two. Artificial grass provides you with more time and doesn’t have any future costs associated with it.

And when compared to gravel or dirt on your balcony — or even just cement — none of those options even come close to the benefits of artificial grass. They aren’t as attractive looking, they’re considerably more messy, and they easily wear down throughout the year due to weathering.

Do you want a warm and welcoming outside area that extends as your apartment’s entertainment space and creates a serene place to relax? Hands down — installing a patio with artificial grass is the best option for that.
