Most people would jump at the opportunity to come home to a spa-like master bath with a giant jet tub, mood lighting, and hidden speakers to pipe in soothing music. An unobstructed view of a glacial lake and surrounding mountains wouldn’t be a bad addition, either. Unfortunately, the vast majority of homeowners have little say over the bathroom they end up with, unless they happen to get in on a development during the early stages of building, in which case they may have some control over the floor plan and the materials used from the get-go. That leaves us in the position of having to live with what we’ve got or undergo renovations. While neither is a terribly appealing prospect, the latter will leave you with a master bath that you’ll be dreaming about all day. And here are just a few unique and upscale additions that will help to personalize your master bathroom.
Soaking tubs.
It seems that everyone is over the Jacuzzi tub trend (not surprising with all the malfunctions they seem to face). These days it’s all about oversized bathtubs that you can soak in. While a cast-iron, claw-foot tub will certainly lend an old-world air to the space, along with a sort of regal charm, the modern way to do this style includes a drop-in tub with a tile surface surrounding it to house flowers, candles, and whatever else helps you to relax while you soak.
Heated floor.
Is there anything worse than stepping out of a nice, hot bath onto cold tiles? The obvious alternative is to throw down a soft, absorbent rug, but it’s not like you’re going to carpet the whole bathroom (that’s a good way to promote mold and mildew), so eventually you’ll have to tread on the tile. So why not get an upscale feature that anyone can appreciate with under-floor heating? You’ll never have to get cold tootsies while toweling off again.
Vanity.
For years vanities have traveled out of the bathroom and into other areas of the house (bedrooms, walk-in closets, etc.). This isn’t such a terrible idea since makeup can spoil in a bathroom setting (although a good vent will counteract the heat and steam that can cause cosmetics to spoil prematurely). However, women tired of standing at the sink and using inadequate counter space to house their many makeup essentials are turning to built-in vanities complete with a recess for a stool or chair, adjustable mirrors with hidden storage, and plenty of lighting for proper makeup application.
Separate sinks.
The dual sink is nothing new, but the latest trend in upscale bathrooms includes two separate sink and countertop areas, usually facing each other from opposite sides of the room. Of course, you’ll need a pretty large bathroom space to pull this off, but it could make it a lot easier for one person to shave and another to put on makeup in the morning.
Toilet room.
Since many homeowners have to share a master bath with a spouse, having a separate room for the commode can come in handy (two people can use the bathroom without basic bodily functions put on display). Whether you opt to put in a fancy setup that includes both a toilet and bidet or you go for easy-to-install products from upflushtoilet.com, creating a dedicated water closet adds functionality and style to your master bath.
