Guest Blogger: How to Bring Cottage Style into Your Interiors

 Guest Blogger 1K+, Entry #2581, June 30, 2013

Bring a vacation home into your interiors by following the cottage style influence.   The cottage style brings in relaxation, casual charm and an open atmosphere to any space.  Cottages are usually associated with calming retreats away from your daily life routine, such as visiting a beach or perhaps a bungalow in the city or even in escaping to a cabin tucked away in the woods.  So create this ambiance in your own favorite spaces or home décor.  The cottage style is a bit simplistic than most but none the less filled with plenty of beauty and serenity.

Use a light color palette:

When you look or reminisce about cottages the hues or tones are soft and light to help resemble the beach or a peaceful habitat.  So different shades and tints of whites, neutrals, taupe, greys, greens and blues all help to achieve the look of a refreshed and naturally vibrant cottage appeal.  Also dulling, fading, or weathering the paints helps to create the vintage look that cottages have.

Keep it natural, colorful and dark:

You want to remember that in a cottage styled interior the windows, floors, and walls would be what carries most of the color and texture.  So the walls would be rough and textured and the floors along with the windows would have wooden materials.  Some other materials that also help with color tiles, ceramics, and natural stones.  Putting in these materials helps to pull out some of the natural elements of the outdoors that we have all come to enjoy.

Fill the open areas with flowers and plants:

Here is another way for you to bring in bright colors and freshness to your cottage style interiors by adding floral selections.  Collect any flower pots, baskets, urns, pitchers, and vases to put any plants or colorful flowers of your choosing into them.  Also consider growing your own garden filled with wild flowers this helps to further reinforce the natural look you are aiming for.  Don’t forget about the windows; add window boxes that way you have fresh color coming from each open area.

Add antiques and woven accessories:

Feel free to bring in quality furniture like www.onlinesofawholesale.com and woven accessories to your cottage style space.  This is when a trip to the local flea market or hand-down antiques from your family heirlooms would be great assets.  Search for items like benches, dressers, chest, tables, chairs, rocking chairs, etc.  Woven accessories like woven baskets, ottomans (used for storage pieces which will help to keep the space open), rugs etc. will all create a more familiar inviting environment to the space like the woods or forest.

Making your space a cottage style representation will always give an inviting, open, and captivating feel to anyone who enters through it.  So try out these suggestions for to create your own cottage styled interiors for your space.
