Out of the most expensive parts of owning a home is choosing appliances, furniture and yes a mattress for your bedroom. Mattresses have always been one of those ticket items that are supposed to last for years, and buying a bad one can lead to a poor night’s sleep and years of uncomfortableness.
Today, my Guest Blogger gives tips for how to shop for a quality mattress, especially when you are on a budget. After all, shopping is easier when the sky’s the limit, but when you have a tight budget, you could use all the help you can get, right?

Buying a new mattress takes time and research and a lot of comparison shopping to ensure the perfect nights sleep is awaiting you.
Mattresses last for years, this is not an item that is replaced often so making sure to buy the best mattress for a family is essential. Start with the basics in mind and get an idea of the kind of mattress that would fit perfectly. Then take time to seek out mattress sales that can offer an excellent mattress at a reasonable price, this gives you added value for your long-term purchase.
Decide on the size of mattress that is needed
If upgrading to a larger size or downgrading, take that into consideration. The size of the mattress will affect the price. Mattresses come in several sizes to choose from starting with the largest, the king or the California king. The difference between the king and the California king is width and length. The king is wider where the California king is a few inches less in width but longer than the traditional king size mattress. The next size is the queen. The queen is narrower but the same length as the king. The full size mattress is not as wide nor as long as the king or queen mattress. The twin mattress is narrower than the full and the same length. There is also the extra long twin, this is an average width twin mattress but it is longer than the traditional one. Knowing the size needed is the first step in shopping for the perfect mattress.
Comfort and kind of mattress that fits your sleeping pattern
If having sleep problems, or living with chronic pain, then finding the right mattress to aid in better sleep is imperative. Know the differences in comfort layers and the padding that covers the coils. This aids in selecting the proper firmness. If there is a box spring required, this can be less expensive when buying a set at a mattress sale. Is the mattress manufactured with innerspring coils or is it a memory foam mattress? Knowing the type of comfort that is best for your sleeping habits will help you to narrow the choices.
Look at the brands and how they manufacture their mattresses. Top brands such as Serta, Sealy Posturepedic, Sterns and Foster, Simmons Beautyrest and others are available. Each brand offers something for just about anyone at reasonable prices. Each brand has their own manufacturing procedures and offers choices for selective customers. Don’t confuse price for value. If the price of a mattress seems too good to be true and the brand is unknown, check other mattress sales and compare known brands. After a short time the discount isn’t as important when sleep is being affected by poor quality. Expect to pay for the best mattress that suits your needs, but shopping for the best deal is how you find a quality mattress for the perfect price.
Shopping for a new mattress doesn’t have to be difficult and isn’t necessarily expensive considering how long the mattress will be used and how well you sleep for years to come.
