How to Declutter Your Spring Office for Productivity

A clean and tidy home office increases your capabilities and inspires you to be productive during your work day. In fact, a dirty and messy office environment is sure to appall anybody. So, spring is probably the best time to clean the dirt and mess from your workplace when your spirit is still high due to the flooding of sun through your office windows.

Create Separate Zones

A declutter project will go in vain if you do not have any proper plan for that. One important way to do the work in an organized way is to divide the office space into different zones. It will help you placing the documents, records, and other things in right places and give the space a clean look. After taking decision about how you want to use the space, set up the zones for performing your day to day functions more easily. For example, you may need different sections for storing supplies, for making archives, for setting up the computer, and for establish a comfortable library for research purpose.

Declutter Your Desk

Sometimes, your working desk becomes so messy that it takes your extra time and energy to find an important paper or note. So, you have to make your desk free of visual clutter by keeping just the most essential items on it. Get rid of all the unnecessary stacks of paper, old coffee cups, and boxes of pens. Keep only the necessary items like your laptop, a notebook, a cellphone, pens, a table lamp, and a personal photo. Other personal items and stacks of necessary papers should be kept in the respective zones set up for them.

Organize Your Paperwork

You cannot imagine a workspace without paper and documents. In fact, most of today’s offices are just buried under paperwork. So, what you need to do is to take a look at them and to sort out the paper pieces that you need no longer. When your file cabinets become loaded, de-file them, throw some of them into the waste paper basket, and keep the rest in an organized manner. You can keep the documents of ongoing projects in small file cabinets with separate color or separate label for each project.

Be Prepared for Short-Term Storage

There may be still some overflow despite purging every unnecessary item from the workspace. A short-term storage is a good idea from saving your space to be cluttered with those items that keep amassing onto your desk, in the cubicle, and the room on a regular basis. You can keep a basket for stashing newspapers or daily magazine subscriptions. Move these items somewhere else or dump them when the basket is full.

    Any ideas on how to make two monitors on my desk more attractive. I work from home and desk area is in my bedroom they are an eye sore,

    Gloria,

    This is a hard one without seeing how much space you have. I would suggest searching some image sites. Like Houzz.com that have a photo gallery and you can search for home offices that have 2 monitors. It may help 🙂
