Simple Ideas to Add Warmth to Your Winter Home

Entry #2032, January 21, 2012

Winter is a gray, long season when everyone longs for the brightness and liveliness of spring. People have to spend more time indoors this season. So, you can consider home renovations that will give you a warm and cozy atmosphere inside your home.

Use Bright Colors

During winter, the overcast skies and the indirect light tame the vibrancy somewhat. So, a bright color will fight the gray skies very well. You can lift your mood in an instant by painting your walls with some dazzling colors like crimson, gold, orange, etc. If you are not into adding such intense colors, think of using softer tones of gold, brick, or yellow. In case if you do not want to change the color of the walls, bring colors by changing the window and door covers, hanging artworks on the walls, adding new accessories, or changing the tones in furniture.

Add Indoor Plants

Accent your home in these lifeless winter days by adding plants to it. A touch of green can instantly make your home healthier, inviting, and colorful. Buy some plants that will survive indoors during the wintertime. Just hang a single spider plant inside the living room and you would be surprised to see that how it enlivens the whole place.

Light a Fireplace

The glow and ambiance of a fireplace will help you to forget the drab wintry scenes outsides. If a wood-burning fireplace seems too costly, you can buy an electric fireplace, which can be set up anywhere. Even if you set candles without lighting fireplace, it will be enough to transform your living space by adding warmth and intimacy to it.

Add Accessories for Winter

You can use cozy, warm throws near sofas and chairs. They will serve the functions of offering tepid, lovely color and be at hand to cuddle around feet and knees. You can use them at bedrooms too. Winter is also a good time to throw away any kind of silk arrangements. Instead, you can bring fleece pillows, pine cones, and birch logs to make any room feel suitable for winter. Another way to add warmness is to cover the floors if they are made of tile or hardwood. You can use area rugs or cut carpets into custom sizes to give toes a warmer feel underfoot.

Do Activities You Like

The winter days can be filled with tender warmth by doing some warmer activities like writing letters to friend or a dear one, spending times with family, reading a book by the fire, digging out family photo albums, or planning a vacation.

Just try these simple makeovers and you will be amazed to see how your space gets a marvelous winter facelift.
