How to Maximize Space in your Small Home Office

Maximizing office space often can be based on the arrangements of the objects inside the office. One of the things you need to do is to familiarize the whole office space. This will provide you ideas where to place the furniture and other office materials.

Maximizing office space can be difficult but with careful planning and organizing of things, home office will never run out of space. Here are some useful tips:

Measure your area

This is very important in maximizing your space. Knowing the total dimension of your area helps you decide the arrangements of furniture and office equipment. It provides proper partitions on the different areas of your home office like the area of your office desk, tools and equipment, storage and ornaments.

Fill-in the small areas of your office

There are some areas in the office that can be better used. For example an empty corner may not be able to fit a file cabinet, but you could use the wall space for a bulletin board or hanging your purse, camera, etc…  You may consider customized storage furniture or built in bookshelves can make use of your awkward space as well. Also, office equipment and machines can fill-in the space but make sure it is arranged properly.

Avoid too much printed copies

Printed copies of any office papers like reports can consume a decent amount of office space when stored. Although you cannot totally get rid of hard copies but then you have to know what to keep and throw away. If you intend to have a copy, you may use a scanner and just save it in your computer as a soft copy. Consider storing your files on clouds electronically to get rid of much of your paper clutter.

Add lighting

Lighting your home office can maximize the appearance of space. Use desk lamps, wall sconces, and even pendant lamps for ambient lighting from the ceiling. Don’t forget about natural light! Open up those windows and let in sunshine, it will make you feel better too!
