Olioboard Inspiration #6

‘Fun and Practical Storage for Pet Organization ” – Adele Baumann Healey

Pet organization divided into Country, Modern & Traditional styles

Most of us have pets, from giant Great Danes down to tiny mice.   We not only have the pets, but all the necessities that go along with being a pet owner.  Often we wonder where that food bag could be hidden, yet still be handy.  How do we keep the food off the floor and in the bowl where it belongs, and where did I put that leash?

While researching for new and clever ideas, I came across some really gorgeous photos of luxurious kitchens with built in food bowls, drawers made especially for food, and water lines connected directly to water bowls.  But, few of us can actually afford to design a room around a pet, so I began looking for inexpensive solutions to daily problems faced by all pet owners.

Pet food organization essentials

Food is always being spilled on the floor (either by us or the pet).  I discovered an obvious solution to the messy results.  Why didn’t I think of it?  Get a tray with sides and place under the bowls.  That way, everything is caught in the tray which is easy to pick up, keeping those little kibble bits confined, and then dump.

Whether it is cat food, dog food or treats, why not use an item that can add a bit of whimsy to your room?  If you’d rather have something that fits your decor, there are numerous sites with any decor option.  But, it doesn’t have to be a pet store, although they can have the perfect solutions to a storage problem.

Cleverly storing pet supplies

From country (vintage shops, discount stores), to sleek and modern (office supply stores, chain stores), you can actually add to the design of your kitchen/room while hiding all the pet supplies.

Use boxes that fit your decor to hide nail trimmers, leashes, pet medication or brushes.  Slip in jewelry drawer dividers to keep it all in order.  Canisters and cookie jars come in all shapes and sizes and many are airtight which will keep food and treats fresh.

Use your artistic skills and paint that popcorn tin that’s been sitting around and don’t forget the new wild masking tape available now.

After viewing so many fun ways to hide my pet supplies, I’ve decided it’s time to remodel this kitchen.  Well, at least update my pets’ food canisters and move their apparatus into a much cuter container.  That’s a start!

About Adele Baumann Healey

I am a mother of two and a grandmother of 4.  Our family was a member of the military for 21 years and lived all over the U.S and in Europe, moving 13 times in 19 years.  While residing in Germany, we traveled constantly (my little kids in tow in our old V.W. camper) and I absorbed, through osmosis, the many historical attributes of architecture and design.  Even in the U.S. it was a learning experience to see how the many people I met decorated and used their creative skills, each influenced by the environment in which they were living.  Simply put, when you move so much and live in so many types of residences it was always a challenge to achieve a homey place for your family to grow and be nurtured.  What was my biggest challenge?  An old TB ward of an empty hospital building! I can’t believe I miss this when it was first posted! What gorgeous boards and fantastic ideas. The one with the tray is so simple and yet I can really see how this totally inexpensive idea could work so well. Love everything in these boards!!!
