Fall is a great time to de-clutter and organize your bookcase and style it up for the coming winter months. Imagine yourself curled up in a warm cozy chair with a great book from your collection while it snows outside. The thought will help you get started. The ideal way start organizing is to first empty the bookcase. Pull out everything you have and give it a good deep clean.

1. Organizing your Bookcase – Jazz up the back:
It is easy to add color and liven up your bookcase without too much hassle. Grab a few sheets of scrap book paper, leftover wall paper or just wrapping sheets. Measure the inside of every shelf and cut your paper accordingly. Stick it on the inside to transform your bookcase and add texture.

2. Sort the books:
While you let the glue dry up, sort out your collection of books. Dust the books well and group them into genres like classics, fiction, motivational and children’s books. Place any books that you do not need into a donation box and drop it off at your local charity later.
3. Add some order:
There is no set rule for the placement of books. But books placed in an orderly fashion are appealing to the eyes. Follow a pattern to arrange your books on the shelves. Start with vertically stacking the tallest and heaviest book on the right and then moving left according to the size. You can also stack a few books horizontally to add a visual appeal. Again start by laying the largest book and stack the smaller ones as you go up.

4. Organizing your Bookcase: Layer the accessories:
Once the books are back up on the shelves, fill the empty spaces with accessories and trinkets. When choosing your accessories it is best to stick to one dominant color and one accent color. White is a great choice of color for book shelves. It helps brighten up the space. If you do not have enough white accessories, consider spray painting non- white ones. Metallic accents like gold and silver and warm colors like oranges and reds will warm up the bookcase. Too many colors can get overwhelming. Work around with the accessories and edit the placement till you achieve a pleasing outcome.

Another great way to personalize a bookcase is by adding photographs and printed quotes from books that you have read. A well-kept bookcase will motivate your children to indulge in some reading activities. Create a cozy nook around your reading area to make the bookcase even more warm and inviting.
