How to Play with Patterns in Your Interiors

Entry #3174, January 6, 2014

We all, from time to time, need a switch or change within our interiors.  Sometimes we need a major change other times just a few additional modifications.   And one really great way to do both in your interiors by using in different patterns and textures.  It could be something as simple as setting in some colorful accent pieces or as eccentric as adding scenic wallpaper to the dining room.  It doesn’t matter how you display pattern within your interiors, the choice is yours.  Now take a look below on someways you can play with patterns within your interiors.

Start Off with Small Patterns

A great way to start adding in pattern or splashes of color is by working them into the furniture accents within the room.  Perhaps, major is not the way you would like to go yet you still want that standout wow factor in your space.  Then use small textured around your space.  Things like throw pillows or blankets, rugs, chair fabrics, lamp shades or lamp bases, armoires, dressers etc. with different designs and patterns to help add visual appeal to the space.  That way you won’t run the risk of an overwhelming eye-sore but complimentary addition.

Work the Walls in your Interiors

Another great way to add in pattern and texture to a space is by using different types of wallpaper, paints or fabrics.  Visit your local wall paper or paint stores to help get inspiration or ideas for your space.  The different patterns that come from the wall paper or fabric can act as wall art and allow you to add in simple furniture selection.  Or if you decide to use paint, you have great opportunity to create patterns like stripes or stencil art.  This can also be a great do-it-yourself project just be sure to get the proper consulting before you get into the process.

Add Artwork Selections

Bring in pattern with your wall art or artistic accent pieces.  Have your wall art display whimsical shapes, bold animals, contrasting colors, or even inspirational words.  And top it off with strong accent pieces like small figures, statues, vases, books etc. to help further incorporate the patterns and color combination that has already been set.  And, again you would be able to keep the furniture clean and simple without much work.

Ceilings and Floors

These methods have been continuously used throughout the years.  Have the floors or your ceiling invite pattern into your home.  For the flooring, add in some decorative tile or richly colored and patterned carpet.  From there you would be able to use the flooring as a foundational component when decorating the rest of that interior space.  For the ceiling, have a bold color with contrasting detailing covering the ceiling or a different colored molding to help accentuate the space.

It’s great to have your interiors the way you like for them to be.  However, sometimes a change may be necessary.  And the changes do not have to be major or costly.  They can be as basic and to the point as you would like for them to be.  Something as complimentary like adding in a few patterns will help to give excitement and energy back into your interiors, the way you would like.  So go out and see how you can bring patterns into your space.
