Entry #3139, December 23, 2013
The holiday season is the busiest time of the year for many people. It is a time for entertaining family and friends and meeting people you haven’t seen in years. As you usher in the New Year, it is important to ensure that your house is in tiptop condition and that all the pending jobs have been completed. Starting the New Year with an organized house gives you a clean entrance into 2014. Here are some guidelines to help you get your home ready for New Year’s Eve.

Store Your Christmas Holiday Decorations
Hide Christmas decorations you don’t want your guests to see. Trade them for festive flower arrangements, balloons, and tinsel. Make it a point to take Christmas decorations down two days before New Year’s Day so as to usher in the New Year in a fresh way. As you put things away, go over lamps and tables that might have accumulated dust over the holiday season. Avoid cluttering the room with too many New Year decorations and use a few large pieces to create the desired impact.

Take a Head Count for New Year’s Eve Party
When throwing a New Year’s Eve party, ensure you take a head count so that you can get the right amount of drinks, food, chairs, and party favors. Avoid inviting guests over the phone, Facebook, or through text. Send invites by email that require RSVP which are free and easy to use.
Serve Food in a Different Room

Entertaining and serving food in different rooms allows your guests to indulge in different activities at the same time. Some can sing, dance, and play games as others hold conversations over drinks or appetizers. This helps you to keep a lot of the mess in one room and prevent spills on carpeted areas.
Have a Cleanup Plan
Many New Year’s Eve parties go well into the night so it is important to ensure you have a cleanup strategy. Plan in advance what you will clean up that night and what you’ll save for the next day. You can also clean up as you go to save time and effort.
