Pick the Right Color Scheme
Choosing a color scheme for your neutral interior can be a hard task. To simplify the process, use a color wheel and pick one color scheme: analogous or complementary. While there are many more color schemes out there, these are the most effective. A complementary color scheme is comprised of colors that are across each other on the color wheel like orange and purple, yellow and blue, or green and red. This color scheme gives a room a formal and visually challenging look by providing a clear separation of colors. An analogous color scheme, on the other hand, is comprised of colors that are set next to each other on the color wheel like orange and red, violet and blue, or yellow and green. This scheme gives an interior a restful, casual look that is subdued.

Get Inspired by Nature
No colorist can compare to Mother Nature. She creates stunning masterpieces without trying too hard. Try to imitate her by bringing outdoor summer colors in. Pick dark hues for the floor (ground colors), lighter colors for the walls (mountain and tree colors) and light colors for the ceiling (sky colors). If you divide your colors by intensity, you’ll create a design that looks great every time.
Pull From a Pattern

To add color, pick the colors from the biggest pattern in the room. This can be artwork, upholstery fabric, a rug, or drapery. This procedure is easier and less expensive than painting a room a particular color only to find that it looks hideous. If your drapery is red and black, add black and red throws, cushions, rugs, or flower vases. Make sure that the lighter color is the dominant one.
Adding pops of color is the best way to enliven an interior. White, cream, and beige look good, but they look even better when mixed with warm summer colors. Use these summer décor tips to give your home a little cheer.
