Glitter Wall Paint Directions:

1. Prepare your surface, which means to clean the wall and to repair any imperfections. Spread some old newspapers on the floor to prevent making too much of a mess.
2. Add some of the glitter to the bowl and add a small amount of mod podge. Mix it well so you will end up with a chunky mixture.
3. Using a sponge brush, apply some of the glitter mod podge mixture to the wall with an upward movement.
4. Use the putty knife for a more detailed application of the glitter mixture.
5. Let it dry completely and apply some more of the glitter mixture wherever needed.

This technique is ideal to use not only on the wall but also on other objects, like chairs, chests, drawers or smaller things like a jewel box or a frame. Just choose the color of glitter you want and add some twinkly magic to anything your heart desires.

Supplies

• Assorted buttons in various fall colors (orange, brown, yellow, red etc.)
• A blank canvas
• Brown acrylic paint
• Other colors of acrylic paint (optional)
• Paint brushes
• Hot glue gun or other glue
• Spray Sealer (optional)
• A pencil or a printer (optional)

Directions

• If you want, you can paint the entire canvas to give it a base layer, but it can be left blank. If you want to paint it, let it dry completely before moving to the next step.
• To make the project even easier, you can use a tree trunk and branches template as a guide for your tree. To transfer the tree template, use the pencil to outline the tree trunk and the branches. Make sure to use a large enough template, which will depend on your canvas’ size.
• Once ready, use a paint brush and brown paint to paint the tree trunk and branches. To make it more realistic, you can add lighter brown or darker brown accents to the trunk and branches. Let it dry completely.
• Arrange the buttons near your tree’s branches. When you are satisfied with the look of your tree, begin gluing all the buttons into their places. As soon as all buttons are glued to your canvas, you can spray a layer of sealer on your art to make it last longer.

That’s it! It’s really this easy! You can go the extra mile and make not only a fall tree for a Fall Craft, but use buttons in other colors to make also trees for the three remaining seasons as well. Decorating Ideas: Styling a Corner Gallery Wall

Choosing the right corner walls:

Creating a corner gallery wall does not mean that you should cover every corner in your home with pictures. Narrow down on a corner that is in a location that could use a little attention. A great corner gallery wall location can be behind a reading corner, along the stairwell, or in a small space like the entrance or an alcove where the pictures can create a wrapping effect. Depending on your personal style, you can choose to create a gallery wall that extends from the floor up to the ceiling or stretches across two walls.

A Well-Balanced gallery wall:

A well-balanced gallery wall is easy on the eyes and helps to cut the chaos. But well- balanced does not mean that you necessarily have to stick with the rules of same sized frames or pictures laid out in a grid pattern. Use your creativity to pick pictures that reflect a similar element. For example, frames in the same color provide cohesiveness. You can also choose to add frames in different shapes or sizes, but you must ensure that the pictures belong to a similar color family. Add a burst of bright color for some variety but keep unification in mind. The idea is to find a common point and use that to create a method to the madness.

Setting Up your Gallery Wall:

The set-up is just as crucial as deciding which pictures to put up and which ones to leave. Since this is a corner gallery wall, pay attention to the balance on both sides of the wall. Pick frames that cover equal areas on both sides to avoid an unfinished look. Trace the outline of the frames on butcher paper and use the cut outs to decide on an arrangement that you love the most. Use the internet to look for decorating ideas and placements. Painters tape will come in handy when deciding on the placement. Once you are happy with the arrangement, use nails or 3M Command strips to hang the frames in place.

Don’t be afraid to use your creativity when designing a corner gallery wall. Pick frames in different sizes and shapes, mementoes and quirky souvenirs to go up on the wall. A corner gallery wall will add a personal touch to your home.

In my experience as a design consultant, I have been inside clients’ homes countless times.  I love to see how each person has a unique and personal sense of style, and I believe it’s very important to preserve their sense of identity when redecorating.  What I like, or whatever the latest home trend is, may not be the one-size-fits-all solution for everyone.  With that said, there are some décor mistakes I see repeatedly from place to place that are easily remedied without professional help.  I call them “mistakes” because, even though design is incredibly flexible, these three things simply don’t work well in the overall visual aesthetics of a room.  Take a look around and see if you can’t do a simple improvement right now.

The ‘Postage-Stamp’ Rug

Rugs that are too small for a room are all too common.  A rug should act as an anchor that unites all the furniture groupings together by extending to reach all of them.  Generally, you should leave only 18-24 inches of space between the walls and rug border all the way around or the “anchor” will feel lost and floating in the center of the room.  Check here to learn more about choosing the perfect rug.

Of all the big decorating decisions that go into your home, I find wall art to be one of the most daunting.  I’m not sure whether it is because or in spite of my education in art history, but I look at a blank wall the way a challenged writer looks at a blank page: for hours!  Art is the finishing touch that brings all the elements in your room together, and I love when a great piece of art is the focal point of the room.  But no matter your décor: from an extremely specific theme to simple and white, there are so many options for art.  Choosing a great piece is less about a right and wrong answer as it is about your design inspiration and a gut feeling.

Go Big or Go Home

Like working a crossword puzzle with a pen, you should commit to your decision if it’s going to be a major focal point in both size and style.  For several years now, the staying trend is to fill your wall space as much as possible.  Leave at least a 12 to 18-inch clearance to the ceiling and floor (or furniture, etc), but other than that, fill your space as much as possible.  You can use one large image or a creative grouping to achieve your goal, but find something that you really love or you’ll tire quickly of such a big statement.  While you’re bound to find many pieces that are stunning, keep a close eye on your current design to narrow your choices.  You want at least two of the same colors in your artwork, and the subject (even if it’s abstract) should be in keeping with your style or theme unless you are aiming for an extremely eclectic, mixed look.

Framing It

Don’t forget about the frame!  Just like the style of the art you choose, the frame’s styling may match or contrast with your room.  A smaller painting may fill your space and draw attention with a thick frame just as a large black-and-white print will shine best in a small, simple frame.  In the end, trust your instincts; after all, you are the one who will see it the most!
