Using Decorative Topiary Plants in Outdoor Entertaining Areas

Entry #1103, April 18, 2012

Spring entertaining is in the air and so is decorating your outdoor home with welcoming plants and decor. One of the easiest ways to decorate is to use Palladian planters that have plants, small trees, and groomed foliage that is cut and trimmed into specific shapes and designs to give your outdoor a home a designer look. Take a look at these tips for using topiary plants in your entrance and gathering areas for a gorgeous backdrop to your spring get together.

Assess your outdoor home needs:

  • Everyone’s outdoor home requires a different type of foliage and topiaries come in different sizes, shapes and styles. If your home has free flowing gardens and landscaping. Topiaries that are more free-form could be ideal. Free form topiaries have a more natural cut and look as though they are growing straight from nature. If your home is traditional, symmetrical with uniformity as the theme, consider using well manicured topiaries in shapes to compliment your outdoors. Especially along a long driveway, entrance or around a pool. Topiaries in the shape of small trees, and even spherical balls are a landscape designer look that is perfect to add a formal flair to your outdoor home.

Dress up your outdoor entertaining display areas:

While your outdoor grounds can be beautified by topiaries also think of your outdoor dining tables. Petite and miniature topiaries are a perfect accent to any spring garden party. Customized by your imagination consider having a florist design them or try a do it yourself project and create them yourself. There are many how-to videos on the internet for creating topiaries for centerpieces. Consider using faux varieties that you can change out foliage and colors for seasonal events and add ribbon, ivy, and other decorative items from your local craft store.

Discover the outdoor options of decorating with topiary plants. Whether you decide to line your driveway with estate sized planters or you want to keep them scaled down the option is yours. Topiaries can come as large as your imagination. Many gardeners specialize in cutting existing trees into beautiful shapes and if your garden has plenty of trees, consider having a one-of-a-kind garden with hand cut topiaries. If you prefer to have just a touch of the beautiful plants, keep them for your dining tables as conversation centerpieces. Either way topiaries will brighten any spring entertaining event you throw this season.
