As much as we like to make something special for Valentine’s Day, there might not always be time to do it. But even with little time to spare, here is a fabulous Valentine’s Day Recipe for breakfast or dessert, which although is super-fast to make it is also a super-cute treat.

Valentine’s Day Recipe: Strawberry Heart Mini Pies

Ingredients

(the yielding depends on the shape and size of the pies)

• 1 box refrigerated pie crust
• 6 teaspoons strawberry jam (or strawberry pie filling)
• 6 teaspoons chocolate hazelnut spread (e.g. Nutella), optional
• 1 Egg
• 1 tablespoon Water
• 2-3 fresh large strawberries
• Granulated sugar for decoration

Directions

1. Preheat your oven at 400 °F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. Beat the egg and water well in a small bowl to make an egg wash. Set aside.
3. Unroll the pie crust and use a knife or a cookie cutter to cut the pies into desired shapes. Make sure you have always two parts of the same shape.
4. Slice the strawberries lengthwise and give them a heart shape.
5. Take one pie part and a slice of strawberry. Use the strawberry as a template to cut out a heart. Repeat with half of your pie parts.
6. Take the pie parts that haven’t a cut out heart and spread about 1-2 teaspoons strawberry jam. If you want to use the chocolate spread, spread it first and the jam above it. Make sure to leave the borders without jam.
7. Place the pie parts with the cut-out over the parts with the jam. Place one slice of strawberry in the cut-out. Seal the edges and make decorations using a fork.
8. Brush each pie with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sugar. Place on cookie sheets.
9. Bake until golden brown, for about 10-14 minutes. Let them cool down a little and then serve.

There are a lot of ways you can make some beautiful Valentine’s Day pies using this easy Valentine’s Day Recipe. You can use a large heart cookie cutter to make heart-shaped pies instead of rectangular ones. Also, consider making pie pops using some lollipop sticks. Another fun way is to use some mini letter cookie cutters to create a small message and omit the fresh strawberry slices. Make them with love and it is sure that you will bring the message across!
