Everyone wants to have a new and improved environment to come home to, but what if you don’t have much money? What if you’re on a budget that only allows for a little wiggle room every month? Check out these 3 solutions to decorate your home on a budget, and add a fresh feel to your home.

A can and a roller… it’s all you need!
1.) Paint: Without a doubt, paint is economical. For as little as $10.00 per paint can, and a paint roller, you can transform any space. Colors range from neutrals to bright and bold. Change the mood of your space and drive how your family feels in your home.. color is amazing! Don’t like the color after you paint? Wake up tomorrow, and change it… you can do that with paint!

New towels, can add color and make you feel great!
2.) Decor: In each room of your home, there is decor that can be replaced for dollars a week! Bedrooms: Bed linen, pillows, throw blankets, and area rugs can take a space from old to new, instantly. Bathrooms: Towels, shower curtains, and sink accessories can add instant color, and hotel quality to this everyday space! Kitchen: Have an area to display beautiful pots and pans? Consider buying a bakers rack, or pot rack to display to add personality to your space. Decorative kitchen linen, area rugs, and special place settings can revive a dull kitchen.
3.)Lighting: Believe it or not, light can make your home feel like a shack or a palace! For a few dollars to pay for a different style light bulb, to a one time splurge – lamp, sconce, or lighting fixture, the ambiance can change in an instant. Consider bringing in more natural light to your space through windows, removing heavy drapery and replacing with sheer fabrics. Natural light makes us feel better, and look better… try it!

Natural light, a cheap way to emphasize a room!

While paint is an inexpensive material that can change the entire look and feel of a room, I would suggest low-VOC paints which gas-off minimally, as the toxicity of cheap paints can be damaging to your health. Also, more expensive paints tend to give better coverage, cutting down on your labor time.
Another fool-proof type of paint I highly recommend is Venetian Plaster, that gives an elegant look and covers inconsistencies in drywall. Pre-mixed in a variety of colors, the best I’ve found is Behr (Home Depot) for about $30/gallon. You apply two with a pallet knife in broad strokes and then, after dry, burnish with the pallet knife flat against the wall.
From a decorator standpoint, consider an accent wall — one wall of a room painted in a different, often bold, color. The key to a great paint job is preparation.
While the temptation is to get out the paint and brushes or rollers and start in, don’t skimp on time and attention to taping off all areas not to painted, removing fixtures and wall plates and covering floors and furnishings. This will save a lot of time and aggravation on clean-up and make the painting process easier and more fun.
Aysha, good point. Often times when we think of saving money on decor, we don’t think of our health in the process. Off-gassing and toxicity are important factors to think of when painting. The same is true for spray painting furniture. Sometimes we want to give a new look to an old piece of furniture for little cost. Remember to read the warnings on the side of the can. Thanks for all your suggestions!
