How to Cozy Up Your Living Room

Your living room is the place where you spend most of your waking hours. It should therefore be stylish and comfortable enough to allow you to relax without changing anything. It should be so inviting that when visitors step inside they don’t want to leave. If you don’t like the way your living room looks, take action. Make it the sanctuary you’ve always dreamt of. Follow these tips to cozy up your living room.

Use Heavy Draperies

Sheer curtains make a home look airy and spacious during the warm weather, but they can make a room feel cold and exposed during the cold season. Heavy draperies on the other hand can be compared to a cozy sweater, they are perfect for chilly weather. They make a room look lush and rich, block drafts, and provide extra insulation. Use fabrics like velvet or heavy linen which are thick and stylish.

Change the Lighting

Lighting fixtures can greatly impact the way a room looks. Harsh overhead florescent lights can make a living room feel like an office. Remove such lights and replace them with table lamps and lights with dimmers. You will not only save energy, you will also reduce your power bill. You can also use candles to enhance the atmosphere.

Decorate with Neutrals and Warm Palettes

Neutrals and warm palettes are a great choice for living rooms because of two reasons: they never go out of style and always look good. If you don’t like them, incorporate bold colors sparingly. Use bold paint on an accent wall or add colorful accessories. This way, you can always change the paint or get new accessories when you get tired of a specific color. When you buy colorful furniture, you will have to spend a lot of money to replace it.

If you want to cozy up your living room, use these tips. Nothing is as inviting as a warm and cheery living room. It is the perfect spot to fraternize with family and friends and to while away chilly winter evenings. As you redesign the room, consider your family’s needs. Think of how every person uses the room and you’ll be able to come up with a perfect design.

How do you make your living room cozy?
