Creative Uses of Wallpaper you May Not Have of Considered

Entry #2297, April 14, 2013

Make Artworks with Wallpaper

In order to get a big effect, you do not need to use wallpaper on the entire space of a wall. You will have an instant personalized piece of art by framing a fragment of wallpaper and hanging it up on a wall. An advantage of wallpaper is that most of its designs can be tailored to fit any space. You can also create a mini-art gallery effect by grouping some framed pieces together. For example, you can frame 9 or 12 wallpaper squares in three or four different patterns and hang them on a wall in a rectangular shape.

Take it out of the Wall

You can take the usage of wallpaper beyond the walls. In fact, it can literally be put to use all over the house. Consider putting wallpaper on the ceiling of your bedroom and any other room. The great thing is that wallpaper is available in so many patterns that you can create any atmosphere with it – bright, cozy, cheery, or shady. Using it on the bedroom ceiling will allow you to look at something beautiful at every night.

Unexpected Style

Think outside of the box and do the opposite to what everyone expects. For example, striped paper is normally used vertically but you can hang it horizontally instead. On the other hand, paintings and prints are rarely hung on wallpaper. However, doing so can add visual energy and craft new planes of interest. Just make sure to arrange your groupings carefully.

Use Leftover Pieces

A number of effective ways are there to make use of leftover paper from a wallpapering project. With small pieces of paper, make greeting cards, place cards, or gift tags. Use patches of wallpaper to cover insides of jewelry boxes or wrap gift boxes. You can even wrap the covers of your kids’ books with leftover pieces. With large pieces, you can line the insides of storage cubes or open bookshelves. One interesting use of decorative wallpaper pieces can be spicing up a plain coffee table. Place a paper on the surface of the table and then, use a glass sheet to hold it in place. You can change or remove it at any time to add a refreshing touch to the space. Similarly, you can renovate an antique lamp by coating the lampshade with patterned wallpaper.
