Entry #357, December 15, 2010
Every Christmas you hear stories of families coming together, loved ones traveling many miles, and disputes being buried at the holidays. You also hear the unfortunate stories about people losing their jobs, and making great sacrifices through the holiday season. This season is being approached by myself so differently from those in the past…
In the past, the thought of how to outdo the previous years gifts and how much more could I buy was always high on the priority list. I would start in August purchasing my gifts, and by mid November, Ronique was done!
This year, not the same… with the changing of the jobs and my new solopreneurship I’ve come to discover a better meaning to this holiday season. Yes, I don’t have as much money to spend, or as many gifts to give, but I’m learning that having less may be the greatest Christmas gift that I could ever receive.
Today’s post is a reflection post… no home decor… no do it yourself tips… just this…
How do you enjoy Christmas with less than you would like?
If you have never had to think about it, try it this year… it may be the most magical Christmas you’ve ever come to know!

Ronique, Each year Christmas is less and less about “stuff” We don’t have children and haven’t seen relatives in over 10 years. Each year we were guessing what to get the 15 distant relatives without ever knowing the outcome. Two years ago I called each Family leader and asked if they would be interested in pooling funds often used for gifts. All agreed and each year we rotate and let that family choose the charity. It is far more gratifying helping others & we keep unwanted gifts out of our homes. Plus, we actually talk more now. Merry Christmas!

Laura what an awesome story! I’m always humbled by those who have found the true meaning of Christmas… I think it may have taken me until this year. My husband always says, you have heat, your family is healthy, food to eat, and a car to drive. Everything else is just fluff! 🙂 Thanks Laura, and have a great holiday!
