Know the best season to plant.

Planting roses in spring or early summer allows sufficient amount of time for roots to establish. You can also take advantage of wide varieties of quality roses during spring season. Winter is not the right time to plant roses.

Prepare the soil.

A well-drained, rich and loamy garden soil provides better chances of roses to grow. You can perform a soil test for pH rating. The fitting pH rating for roses range from 5.5 to 7.0. It also helps when you will place organic matter in the soil. This will surely enhance the quality of your soil whether it is clay or sandy. Typically, organic matter is composed of manure, peat moss, sludge, fine grain and compost. You can layer your soil with organic matter from 2 to 4 inches.

Ensure proper spacing.

Roses should have proper spacing from each other. It enables roots to spread out and penetrate the soil. The spacing depends on the variety of rose plant you selected. For hybrid teas, polyanthas, grandifloras and floribundas, the spacing should be at least 18 to 30 inches. Climbers roses should be distributed from 8 to 12 feet. The miniature rose variety should have an interval of 12 to 15 inches.

    Hi Natalie,

Thanks for the kind words about Stagetecture. All pictures on Stagetecture are for inspiration, so I can’t say exactly what type of roses those are. Sorry about that. I hope you have a great day!
