Olioboard Inspiration – Fresh Valentine’s Home: Losing the Red & Pink

 Entry #2064, February 1, 2012

Today we continue Stagetecture’s feature. ‘Olioboard Inspiration‘. Last week you enjoyed Sam Holloway’s – ‘Making Bath Time Fun For Kids‘ and this week I bring you Frances Newman, a member of the Facebook Olioboard Fan Room. I had the pleasure of participating in Olioboard’s January Oliohop with Frances and today she is giving you a fresh take take on Valentine’s Day.

If you’re interested in being featured see details here: How to be featured on Stagetecture’s Olioboard Inspiration‘ series.

Olioboard Inspiration #3

‘Fresh Take on Valentine‘s Day” – Frances Newman

How to cure the winter drabs with a fresh new take on Valentine’s Day

If you are like me, half of the Christmas holiday décor stays out until Valentine’s Day. Red pillows and red table runners take on new meaning when a fresh bouquet of pink roses replaces a pinecone centerpiece and pink LOVE signs replace lighted spruce garland over the fireplace mantel.

Does your house look something like this?

OB-valentines BEFORE

This month we are taking on a new challenge to find out… Is there any other way to freshen up a wintery February month other than coordinating reds with pink?

What if we went for a complete paradigm shift and instead of leaving out the red décor after December, we left out the emerald green accents? And what if we paired those green accents with, let’s say, lavender-colored accents for the month of love?

Perhaps our wintery February would look something like this:

OB-Valentines AFTER

A light lavender paint color on the walls and dried lavender on wreaths, as well as a fresh centerpiece of lilacs, alstroemeria, lavender herbs and purple roses complement the emerald green accents that provide a joyful spring feeling and much anticipation of the end of winter.

“Lavender (as a color) reflects light well, which is why you see it all over Scandinavia,” says Designer Peter Vaughn in House Beautiful. “In the depth of winter, it’s a very cheerful color to walk into.”

Purple was always my favorite Valentine heart candy, and paired with emerald green, it can now be my favorite winter color in my home decor.

Do you agree?

Frances, this is pure perfection and what a great palette on the second board and fantastic idea re going from the colours of Christmas to those of the spring. In awe with your very varied and super interesting (to me at least) array of qualifications!
