Have you ever passed by someone’s house and the furniture on the porch looked like it was on its last leg? The reason why could be based on a few things: The furniture might be worn, they purchased a cheap brand or they simply didn’t know what to look for when it comes to purchasing durable outdoor furniture.
If you are someone who is currently in the market for some outdoor furniture of your own, but you’re not totally sure what you should get (or where you should get it), we have five tips for you on how you end up with the best kind; so that people will look at your yard in awe (in a good way):
Shop at the right places.
When we want quality jewelry, we don’t go to custom jewelry stores, right? We go to a jeweler. This same principle would apply to outdoor furniture. Make sure that you go to places that actually specialize in them such as home improvement stores and full line furniture stores. That way, you can feel more confident that you are getting a better brand.
Do a quality check.
There are certain things that you should definitely look for in quality outdoor furniture. It’s best if the metal frames are made for aluminum and not steel (steel tends to rust); the fabric that the furniture is made out of needs to be UV-tested and the metal frames should make a “thud” sound when you thump them. If it sounds more like a “ting”, then that’s usually a sign that it was made from a cheaper material. Also, check to be sure that the washers, nuts and bolts are made from stainless steel (because they do not rust as easily as metal ones do).
Whether you’re in the market for some wicker furniture or a glass table and chairs to put on your deck, there is definitely no point in having these items if they aren’t comfortable to sit in. So, when you’re at the point that you’re seriously considering making a purchase, it’s a good idea to take yourself and a couple of other people (who are a size that’s different from you) along. That way, everyone can have a say on if they feel like they have enough room and if they enjoy sitting in the seats.
Don’t skimp on the cushions.
Have you ever purchased a cheap pillow? In just a matter of a couple of weeks, it seems like it’s almost as flat as a pancake. Cheap cushions on outdoor furniture tend to be very similar. One way to avoid this annoyance is to not purchase cushions that feel very soft and light when you pick them up. That usually means they are made from a fiber that will compress in virtually no time.
Make sure your furniture has “braces”.
If you sit down on the furniture and it feels wobbly or like it’s about to give way, that’s not a good thing. Outdoor furniture tends not to do that when it’s supported by braces, so make sure that the pieces that you choose have those. You definitely want to be able to sit down with confidence. Happy shopping!
