Guest Blog #52, Entry #465, April 1, 2011
Happy April! This month we are looking at Spring inspiration in decor, home materials, Spring holiday ideas, green living, and outdoor inspiration.
Today I decided to kick off April with decor inspiration for your kitchen and bath. The wonderful world of tile is vast and beautiful. I’m always amazed at the beautiful tiles that come about every year from various trade shows and innovations. Last month I had brought to you the color changing tile that was completely remarkable.
Today, my returning Guest Blogger Joseph Freenor from CFT411 – Cabinet and Furniture and Information, gives us a a look into Ann Sacks tile collections.
“Thy sea is so great, and my boat is so small,” is a line that first found service in a fisherman’s prayer, but it came to mind when I saw the picture that tops this blog, because, really, it’s how I have come to feel about tile. It truly is one of the more remarkable mediums ever devised by the mind of man. It is something that can be used in pretty much any context you may envision for it, and it comes in an absolutely mind-boggling array of sizes, shapes, designs, and prices. Truly, if you cannot find an innovative tile to dress up your home this season, it can only be because you have made no effort at all. There is absolutely no dearth of tile makers out there, many of whom are offering some of the most innovative products I believe I have ever seen.
One of the companies that actively seeks out the beautiful and unusual in the way of tile is Ann Sacks. What they have to say about tile so completely expresses my own thoughts that I decided to copy it out verbatim: “Combining function with beauty, tile is the ideal way to bring art into any environment. Created from simple materials, tile has captured every movement in design, color and form throughout history. Yet, regardless of what form it takes, it always conveys a deep sense of emotion wherever it is used. Tile brings a space to life because it is a personal expression of those who live there.”
What they have to say about tile in general makes a great deal more sense when we consider any of their tile lines in particular, especially, the subject of today’s blog. Aura is a new glass tile collection from Ann Sacks that very much proves what they’ve said all along, that tile can be gorgeous and innovative and that it can add immeasurably to any room it adorns. This particular collection is made using the fusing process, which is a method wherein tiles actually trap the dye within the glass. What this means is that there is no chance at all of the tile fading and discoloring with the passing years, which means, in turn, that it really can be a thing of beauty that is a joy forever. The Aura collection itself comes in a wide variety of shapes including square, rectangular, and hexagonal and is also available in a number of different sizes, the better to adapt to any application to which this tile is put.
I have enjoyed a lifelong fascination with the sea. I have read any number of novels and histories of various bold voyages, but what most amazes me is the sheer immensity of the oceans. More and more, though, I am beginning to feel the same way about the world of tile. The variety is endless and the prospects before us are calm seas and a prosperous voyage.
Joe Freenor and Joe Dusel. Being woodworkers we started the CFT411 blog with the premise that we would be discussing mostly topics related to cabinetry and furniture. So, we came up with the idea of Cabinet & Furniture Trends & Information, and setup the CFT411.com blog site
Our revised goal is to keep you informed about a wide variety of interesting products and ideas for your home – inside and out. If we like something we are going to let you know about it. And if you have a topic you would like us to talk about please contact us, we are always looking for things to talk about.

This is great, I love the dark tile. It makes any space look cleaner and sharper. I also love the contrast of the white sink with the dark tile. It is such a modern, classy look.
