When we think of lighting in our homes we tend to only concentrate on the public areas that receive a lot of attention. From the kitchen and living areas to outdoor lighting, one of the most important areas is often overlooked. Your kids’ rooms should be well illuminated with options from night lights, overall, task and even decorative lighting. With young growing eyes, lighting is essential and here are a few tips to help you illuminate your child’s room beautifully.

Choose task lighting carefully:
Ensure there is sufficient lighting sources for tasks at their desk or even bedside. Wall sconces that mount directly to the wall beside the bed or even a side table lamp can work wonderfully for task lighting. At a desk consider the age of your child and if they are reading, doing arts and crafts or just working at a computer. Look in lighting stores and online for specific lighting for your child’s needs.
Lighting is for safety and aesthetics:
While we often think of lighting to perform tasks and to give ambient or overall light we forget it also serves a safety aspect. Night lights for younger children can help them not be afraid at night, but they can also protect you from tripping over their toys in the dark when checking on them at night! Consider adding light to solve both safety and aesthetic challenges.

Illuminate with ambient lighting:
Overall lighting in an overhead lighting fixture can be sporty for an athletic children’s room or it can be dainty like a chandelier. In modern day children’s rooms there no longer is a “kid only” lighting fixture. From cool ceiling fans to floor lamps that sit beside their favorite chair, ambient lighting helps the entire room feel comfortable and look welcoming.

Adding lighting in just the right areas of your kids’ room will ensure your child enjoys staying in their room to play, read, and sleep comfortably. Ensure natural light is another source of illumination. No lighting fixture can replace the beauty of natural light through open windows! Use these helpful tips to bring your child years of enjoyment in their room. If you are still stumped as to how to add more lighting details, look to design blogs, lighting catalogs, or visit lighting stores to give you guidance. The more light you can bring into your child’s room, the more they will love their home!

OMW…the puppy light is adorable. I love this topic as kids really relate to having interesting light fixtures in their space (I have two little ones that love whimsical lights). I think these colorful custom sconces would work well too
Thanks for the great ideas!
