Awesome Fourth of July celebrations call for awesome 4th of July recipes. That’s why we bring to you this beer can herbed chicken recipe that is not only delicious but a fun conversation piece too! The chicken sits on the beer can while it cooks into juiciness. For a non-alcoholic version you can also use de-alcoholized beer.
4th of July Dinner: Beer Can Herbed Chicken

Total time: Preparation 15 minutes + Grilling 1-1/4 hours +standing
Yields: 4 servings
Ingredients
2 tablespoons canola oil
1 teaspoon dried tarragon or 1 tablespoon minced fresh tarragon
1 teaspoon dried basil or 1 tablespoon minced fresh basil
2 teaspoons fresh parsley, minced
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Pinch of salt
Pinch of pepper
3 garlic cloves, minced, divided
1 fryer chicken/broiler (3 pounds)
1 fresh rosemary sprig
12 ounces (1 can) beer

- Combine first 7 ingredients in a small bowl. Stir in ½ of the minced garlic. Rub the mixture over inside and outside of the chicken. Tuck wings under chicken.
- Prepare the grill for indirect heat. Properly cover all sides of an 8 inch round baking pan with foil. Place a beer-can chicken rack in pan. Empty 1/3 beer from the can and save for another use. Using a can opener, make more large holes in the top of the can. Insert rosemary and remaining garlic into the can. Add beer can to the rack.
- Place chicken vertically onto the rack. Place pan on grill rack. Now grill, covered over indirect medium heat for 1 to 1 ½ hours or until a thermometer inserted in the thighs read 180 degrees.
- Remove pan from the grill and tent chicken with foil. Let it stand for 15-20 minutes. Carefully remove chicken from the rack.
