Entry #3285, February 24, 2014

It is amazing to see how trends are moving from a staged and styled look to a free flowing, fresh and eclectic bohemian. A bohemian or Boho look has no rules and your bedroom decor can look amazing with some awesome ideas. It is an expression of your personality that brings out the best in you.

Here are three steps to achieving a bohemian look in your bedroom:

Bedroom Decor: How to Add a Bohemian Look

1. Bold colors in your bedroom decor:

The most important element of a bohemian look is color. Look for a rich color palette that includes jewel tones like bright blue, brick red, plum, orange, hot pink etc.  If you are new to a boho look, start with a clean slate, paint your walls in a light color like white, cream or beige as the backdrop. Use décor and furnishings like pillows, bed spread, throws, rugs and window coverings to make a statement. Don’t be afraid to mix patterns and prints.

2. Texture:

Your color scheme will fail to make a statement unless there is a lot of texture. Texture can be achieved by using a variety fabrics made from natural fibers like wool, cotton, jute, silk and hemp. Bohemian is a collected and curated look. Mix fabrics and exotic finds from your travels or thrift shopping. Dress up your bed with a Moroccan wedding blanket, add a Turkish kilim rug on the floor and make a headboard from India inspired block print fabric. There are limitless possibilities to explore.

3. Eclectic décor:

The bohemian look celebrates timelessness. The bohemians are travelers, lovers of music, literature and art. Make sure to add a few eclectic vintage finds to your bedroom décor. Stack vintage suitcases to create a side table. Use fairy lights and Moroccan lanterns to decorate your walls and add a variety of lighting. Frame pieces of textile, pages from old books you really love in metallic frames. The idea is to mix your vintage and thrift store finds with clean line furniture to give it a modern bohemian feel.
