Before selling the sprawling three-acre estate, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi gave the world a peek inside of their gorgeous Beverly Hills home. Tucked away off Coldwater Canyon, the property boasts two guest homes in addition to the 9,500 sq. ft main house, a pool, and koi ponds.
The single story home was built by architects Bugg & Hensman. The house sits on beautifully landscaped property. Serene koi ponds surrounded by lush trees provide a peaceful place to enjoy each other’s company or to quietly meditate. The swimming pool is bordered by smooth Brazilian granite and offers a stunning view of the hills.
The couple purchased the home fully furnished, but have redecorated several times. Much of the furniture was hand-picked by DeGeneres. A glass and steel Ping-Pong table sits in the entrance way, one of only 10 made by Rirkrit Tiravanija. Other whimsical pieces include a painting of a Puma sneaker, an homage to DeGeneres’s preferred style of footwear.
In the dressing room are floor to ceiling shelves that hold both DeGeneres’s sneaker collection and de Rossi’s Choos, Blahniks and Louboutins.
A combination of vintage and modern make give this home a fresh, but homey air. Slipcovered sofas sit comfortably alongside classic Louis XVI bergères.
In the sitting room, a large painting by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat brings a splash of color to an otherwise neutral space. Their former home boasts many bold paintings from other distinguished artists like Andy Warhol and Mark Grotjahn.
In the library, DeGeneres proudly displays her collection of African art. In her office, she displays her many Emmy Awards.
The house is light and sunny with its cool, white walls, but mixes in earthy elements like reclaimed wood floors and ceiling beams that bring familiar warmth. Casual elements like rattan chairs and fluffy cotton cushions make this charming home feel all the more appealing.
In the bathroom smooth limestone countertops and elegant marble floors. This room also provides a place to showcase some of the art pieces that DeGeneres and de Rossi have collected over the years including a cat sculpture, and mobile by Kevin Inkawhich.
According to the article in Architectural Digest, Ellen and Portia are no strangers to the real estate market. They own several other properties and recently purchased Brad Pitt’s 4,000 sq. ft bachelor pad overlooking the Pacific for a cool $12M.
