.Easy Space Saving Design Tips for Your Garage

Have you ever looked at your garage and simply sighed? It’s amazing how such a big space can fill up so quickly, isn’t it? What’s even more fascinating is the fact that, customarily, garages were created to park our cars and now, the majority of us have any and everything but our vehicles inside of them.

If you’re ready to give your garage an overall, but you need some space saving design tips that won’t have you spending all of your weekends cleaning it out, here are five tips that are quick to apply; ones that will bring about both lasting and wonderful results.

Clear out what you don’t need.

This one should be a no-brainer and yet, it’s the tip that seems to trip us up (literally) the most. When an interior designer is assisting someone with their renovating their closet space, they will usually tell the individual that if they haven’t worn an outfit in a year, then they don’t need it anymore. OK, so think about those dusty boxes packed away in a corner that you haven’t looked at in three winters. If it’s something you forgot about, it’s probably something that should either be given or thrown away.

Put up some shelves.

From tools to toys, household cleaning products to lawn items, over time, a lot of miscellaneous things in our garage can end up looking like a big disheveled mess. One way to remedy that is to put up some wall-mounted shelves. You can find them at your local hardware store or even at the Container Store. They’re relatively easy to assemble and if you get ones that are made of metal, they can last just about as long as your garage does.

Hang your bikes in the air.

We love our bicycles, but they really do take up a lot of room. While purchasing a freestanding bike rack is an option, another cool idea is to get a ceiling-mounted bike lift. Amazon, Home Depot, eBay and BikeRackShops.com are all places that carry them and you can get a really good one for between $30-50.

Designate spaces.

Suppose you’re someone who actually uses your garage for your car; and not just your car, but to make car repairs as well? If you’ve wanted to put in a transfer case for Grand Cherokee for some time now but there’s been no room to do it, after applying these tips, you should have some. Just make sure that you designate a space specifically for car work and that you don’t let anything else come into that area. Not only will this keep things from getting cluttered all over again, but it will also inspire you to “clean as you go”, which makes space for the ample amount of room that you need to work.

Get some plastic bins.

If you’re someone who is big on recycling (or at least trying to be) and you’ve been using cardboard boxes or trash bags to sort out your paper and plastic, why not swap them out for some plastic bins instead? They’re nicer to look at, plus most of them are designed in a way where they can stack on top of one another; a great way to yes, create more space in your garage.
