Did you know it’s #NationalBurgerDay!? Well Summer season has finally arrived, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than this classic old fashioned backyard burger. This versatile meal goes from breakfast to dinner table in a snap and is perfect when served with salad slaw. Did we say this summer dinner recipe is super easy too? Here is our take on this American classic that we can’t stop craving.
Summer Dinner: American Style Beef Burger

Total time: 30 minutes preparation + 10 minutes cooking
Yields: 4 servings
Ingredients
500g beef mince
½ finely chopped small brown onion
½ crush garlic clove
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons mustard
2 teaspoons olive oil
4 slices yellow cheese
4 toasted hamburger buns, split
2 tablespoons tomato sauce
½ cup bread and butter cucumbers
Salad slaw ingredients
3 cups iceberg lettuce, shredded
1 peeled and grated carrot
1 small red onion, halved and thinly sliced
125g cherry tomatoes, halved
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons French dressing

- In a large bowl, place beef, onion and garlic. Season with pepper and add worcestershire sauce and one tablespoon mustard to mince mixture. Mix to combine. Shape into 4 equal thick patties.
- In a large non-stick frying pan heat oil over medium heat. Cook patties for five minutes on each side or until completely cooked. Top each patty with one cheese slice. Place them on roll bases. Top with tomato sauce, remaining mustard and cucumber. Sandwich with roll tops.
- To make salad slaw, place lettuce, red onion, carrot and tomato in a bowl. Combine dressing and mayonnaise in a bowl. Drizzle over salad and toss. Serve burgers with salad slaw.
