DIY Crafts: Creative Decorations Using Forks

Entry #3226, February 6, 2014

How often have you been frustrated by some oddly bended fork, which no longer could be used for eating or presenting at a formal table? The frustration is even more intense if it is some beautiful vintage forks we are talking about. Or you may have ended up with some leftover forks that have lost their match – who knows for what reason. But those forks should not be thrown away! On the contrary, DIY crafts give them a new purpose! Here are some ideas how to make some creative DIY decorations by upgrading and reusing forks beautifully. All you might need are pliers or something cylindrical, like a sturdy salt shaker, to bend the forks around it. The thinner the forks, the easier you will be able to bend them into any shape you like.

DIY Creative Decorations Using Forks

Fork Napkin Holders

It is easy and fun to make some unique napkin holders for any table setting. Vintage forks are great for a rustic setting, while modern forks are ideal for other decoration styles. Just use a sturdy cylindrical item, like a tube for example, to help you bend the fork into shape. If you want, you can also bent the fork’s prongs into cute shapes to give them an extra twist, using pliers (needle nose and flat nose pliers are great for that). If you don’t bend the prongs, you can use the fork napkin holder also to double as name card holders.

And one more thing; those napkin holders can easily become cool bracelets, too!

Fork Hooks

Other creative DIY decorations out of forks are hooks. They are a wonderful decoration for any kitchen or even an office. And they are so easy to make, too. Just bent them into shape and either screw them or glue them from the prongs to the wall or a piece of wood.  They are great for hanging lightweight items like keys, cups, kitchen tools or towels and aprons.

If you want, you can also hang the forks from their handles and spread the prongs with a plier. Now you have a fabulous jewelry organizer!

Cabinet Handles

A unique way to give your old cabinets an unusual look is to use old forks as handles! All it requires is some light bending. Again, for a cooler look, you can bend the prongs as well. Attach them firmly to your cabinet and you are done already!

Easel

With a little clever bending, you can create your very own picture or card easel out of forks. These are great to hold business cards or recipe cards as well. And why not use them as wonderful name card holders for your table? To make them, just bend the two middle prongs backwards and spread them a little apart to give the fork a stable hold. Also, bend the outside prongs to the front and curve the tips a little using some needle nose pliers. You can also bend the fork’s handle to the back until it touches the surface to give the easel additional stability.

Card Holders

Another easy and effortless thing to do is attach a small magnet to your forks. This way you have some unique fork card holders for your fridge! If you want, you can omit the magnet and just attach the forks to a wall or cabinet, using double sided adhesive tape.
