Allowing your kids to participate in some of the decorating decisions in their room is a fantastic way to instill a sense of pride and ownership, without giving them “full rein” to do anything they want.
Develop a decorating scheme that accommodates the functions of your child’s room in addition to the visual decor. Comfortable beds, creative organizers, suitable storage spaces and areas that facilitate studying, crafts and reading can help to customize a kid’s room with function and whimsy.

Beds
There are a variety of choices in comfort, size and appearance among kids’ beds. Your child’s age, personal preferences and available floor space will help determine the best bed for his or her room. Twin or full beds with hide-a-way trundles are ideal for friends spending the night.
Space-saving stackable bunk beds work great in smaller bedrooms. Thematic bed ensembles are a perfect way to decorate a kid’s bed with comfortable style that can be easily replaced as a child’s interests change. Bedding ensembles in assorted sports themes, such as soccer, baseball, football, basketball and hockey are sure to delight your little athlete.

Zoo animal, princess, castle, dinosaur, jungle, train and airplane themes add a touch of whimsical fun to any child’s room. Coordinating tent canopies create a cozy “hideout” for imaginative children.
Matching window treatments and area rugs help to carry the theme throughout the room.
Walls
Deck the walls with colorful art! Neutral wall colors in creamy white or soft beige provide a blank canvas for displaying colorful artwork or hand-painted wall murals.
Hanging pictures that are framed in matching black or white frames allows you to create a cohesive arrangement that can be easily changed. Switch out the current pictures with your child’s favorite new photographs, creative artwork, beloved sports pictures or other framed prints.

Budget-friendly wall decals add instant color and decorative design to a wall without using paints.
Stick glow-in-the-dark moon and star decals on the ceiling for an amusing nighttime display. Stencils provide an artistic avenue for adding painted designs to a child’s room, even if you’re not a free-hand artist. Hang an over-size cork board on the wall for your child to quickly stick up personal notes, certificates, birthday cards or other precious memorabilia. Creatively display surfboards, snow skis, golf clubs or other sporting paraphernalia on the wall to customize your child’s athletic decor. Chalkboard paint is an ideal way to let kids decorative their walls with erasable colored chalk.
