How to Easily Organize your Linen Closet

Linens can be tough to get under control. There are many things that go under the category of linens, and they are versatile in both size and type. Following a few simple tips, closet organization can be easy and linen closets can look organized and make your life easier. Here is how.

Maximize your Linen Closet’s Space

Maximize space by getting rid of linens you don’t need. Donate them to charity or re-purpose them for cleaning or drop clothes, which you will keep in another place, like the garage or the basement. You actually need only three sets of linens for each bed: one for having on the bed, one for having in the closet and one in the laundry.

After having sorted out which items will go into the linen closet, the next step is to use every space available. Dowels and hooks on the inside of the closet’s door can add valuable space.

Sort your Linens

For closet organization, sort your linens into piles: sheets, towels, blankets, table linens etc. Next, organize each pile into smaller groups by room and next by size. For example, put all master bedroom sheets together. A useful tip to organize your sheets is to keep your sheets in one of the set’s pillowcase. Your blankets should be stored by weight; heaviest on the bottom, lighter ones on top. Also, you can divide linens either by season or by formality. This will make accessing them easier.

Don’t underestimate a good, neat folding technique. Fold like items in the same way. Sheets take up less space if pressed along the fold lines with an iron when they are folded. Towels on the other hand can look great if they are tightly rolled up.

Use Dividers and Storage Boxes

Boxes or baskets are a great way to keep smaller items organized. Labeling them is a good idea to be able to find or assign things quickly. Simple dividers on shelves can also help organizing the available space to a maximum. Try labeling each space section so everything has its place.
