Valentine’s Day Everyday in your Home – Nanette Reynolds
The origins of Valentine’s Day date back to the ancient Romans. Many customs that we associate with this day began around the Middle Ages, when poets such as Chaucer romanticized love in their sonnets. Yet despite these colorful beginnings, Valentine’s Day has evolved into a commercialized event overrun with hearts, flowers, and candy everywhere you look.
Valentine’s Day does not have to follow any rules. Just as there are different kinds of love, there are many ways to demonstrate l’amour. Whether you want to spice up your marriage, bond with your friends, reinforce the relationship with your family, or take the next step in a budding romance, let’s examine how décor can help you set the stage for love, Valentine’s Day, and everyday.
Setting the Scene for a Valentine’s Home
First, clear the decks! Nothing puts out a flame quicker than a mess. De-clutter to make room for what you want in your life, as Feng Shui practioners say. If you wish the people in your life to feel welcome, ensure their comfort.
Entice all of the Senses
Next, consider all the senses. The touch of luxurious fabrics, the scent of sensuous oils, special treats to nibble and sip, and even music, can make that particular someone or some ones feel special. Whether a private tête-à-tête or a party of friends, ambiance is essential in creating the proper mood.
So if romance is your focus- dim the lights. Make sure your bed looks and feels it’s best. Experiment with scented candles or essential oils in a diffuser to tantalize and inspire. Turn the TV off and put the music on low.
Make it Romantic
And don’t forget the flowers. Artfully placed bouquets or single flower arrangements can change the ordinary into the extraordinary with a natural beauty everyone appreciates.
In my design here for a Valentine’s cocktail party, simple flowers were used to set a festive tone. For an extra fun element with little effort, balloons hang from the ceiling. Additionally, love themed pillows and art adorn the space and these elements can also be used year round to add a whimsical, fun accent for all to enjoy.
Love blooms in an environment of comfort. Transform your home into a place where everyone feels welcomed and appreciated, and everyday can be Valentine’s Day. How do you Valentines Day Everyday in your Home?
